    Icon11 M2TW Performance

I've been looking at the screenshot thread and I've been pretty amazed. There are folks who can run this game on pretty high settings.

There's one fellow who's specs are pretty similar to my own, but he runs the game on much higher settings (namely with bloom and shadows) that cause my PC to lag to hell.

    My specs are:

Intel Core 2 6400 running at 2.13 GHz
2 gigs of the good ram
    Nvidia Geforce 7900 GS

My framerates depend on how many troops I have out on the field, but I average about 30 when zoomed in on a bunch of troops on high settings, without fancy stuff.

Rome looks and runs way better with all settings maxed out.

    AMD 3500
    1 GB Ram
    7800 GTX

I play everything on high, no problems. The real killer is when i edit the preference.cfg file to set unit detail = highest in order to disable unit sprites.

Im looking to upgrade my pc and get a 24'' LCD. What kind of machine do I need to run the game at 1920 x 1200, max settings and no unit sprites. Anyone here running the game at that resolution and settings?

I just built a new system in preparation for Empire and whatever comes my way, not to mention that I was in dire need of a big upgrade, and I'm running M2TW/Kingdoms maxed out with zero lag.

    specs:

    Q6600 2.40GHz
    nForce 780i SLI
    e-GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB
    Corsair XMS2 2GB DDR2 800MHz
    Antec TPQ 850watt

I upgraded my nvidia 7600gt to a 7950gt and have noticed very little performance difference in all my games. I run M2TW on high settings, apart from shadows and buildings, and only encounter noticeable lag at around 3000-4000 units or 2500+ in a city (as was with my 7600gt) and only when i am viewing the units (if i look at a tree whilst 3500 men are on the field behind my camera then i have no lag, so its not a constant thing). I don't understand how my new card hasn't helped speed things up.

I have an AMD X2 4600+, 2gb of samsung ram, 150 gb SATA 2 HDD, nForce 430 AM2 MB and i think 650 watt power supply.

I think that maybe my cpu is slowing things down as in other games where there are lots of AI controlled characters my computer tends to slow down.

    Any ideas?

My computer has 80GB of HD, 1.5MB of RAM, etc. and it is so slow I can't fight some major battles because of it, and it definitely reduces my quality of battles.

Wow. 1.5 MB of RAM... I can't understand how you got windows onto that thing!

    I assume you mean GB

Well, my Computer, I don't know the processor, but I have 2GB RAM, and a supposedly very bad 256 MB graphics card, and all my settings are on low, but I am hoping to have large scale units, as they would have better battles.
I experience lag on the Rome Campaign map, but the MII:TW Campaign map is a breeze.

I am hopefully getting a new computer this year for Empire.

I built my machine last October, I've had no problems running any game at highest settings...yet.

I run everything at max settings, huge size and windowed and even with 5000 units in play the only time I get anything resembling a lag is at 6x speed or if there are a few thousand flaming arrows in the air.
    Specs:
    Core2Duo E6700 2.666 GHz (overclock on demand)
    Asus P5N32-SLI Premium mb
2 GB 533MHz RAM (4 GB virtual on separate drive)
XFX GeForce 7950 GX2 1 GB dual GPU video
320 GB SATA 7200 RPM hard drive

    Here's my specs:

    E6320 @ 3.15
    Gigabyte P35 DS3L
    2 GB OCZ 800DDR2 @ 450 5-5-5-15
    Sapphire X1950XT 256MB DDR3 675/972
    X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro
    Corsair 620HX
    Viewsonic vx2255wm 22" LCD widescreen
    Vista 32 bit Home Premium

You guys should list the resolution you play at. Saying you run at the highest settings means nothing if we don't know the res.

I game at 1680 x 1050 and set everything to medium (except buildings, which is set to low because there's only low or high). No AA, and bilinear, and bloom and reflections are on. The most lag I get is on the campaign map right where HRE is.. I probably get 25-30 fps in that area.

I haven't noticed a difference between medium and high when up close... it seems that the settings just affect the detail when seen from a distance.

    Here's mine

    Amd64 4000+ @2.4 GHZ
    2 GB A-data 3200 ram (dual channel)
    Msi Neo-F skt 939 m/b
    Audigy 2
    ATI RADEON HD3850 Pro
    Acer x223w 22" LCD monitor
    Windows XP.

    I run the game @ 1680x1050 with A/F @ x8
    No Anti-aliasing .
Vertical Sync is disabled (this makes a major difference to fps)

All settings are on High although Medium textures are ok too.

i was running the game very smoothly with an x1950pro 1024x768 (on a 17"crt)with the same settings. But the 3850pro seems to have been a very good investment for me @£113

I used www.tweakguides.com to tweak my xp settings as well.

I just got a quote for a new system today

    Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz
    4GB DDR2 Memory
    1TB SATA Hard Drive
    20x DVD Writer
    24" Widescreen LCD
    Geforce 8800GT 512MB

Its only going to cost 2000 australian dollars too

I am hoping that this will be able to run M2 on highest settings and at max resolution. It should shouldn't it?

well your system will be a lot more powerfull than mine, and you can see my specs in the previous post from yours.

your res will be 1920x1200 (should be anyway) and if i run at 1680x1050 on my rig then you should be fine.

No one can ever truly say that the game doesn't show any sign of slowing at some point, we all get a glitch from time to time.

I have a rock solid gaming experience on my rig and i'm sure that yours will give you alot of joy.

the 8800gt is a great card (my HD3850 is a good bang for buck choice....kids you know )

Used to run on an ATI 3100se (128mb) and had poor performance on medium settings. 19" lcd monitor.

I recently upgraded to a geforce 8600gts and a 22" widescreen. Game is beautifual. I can swoop and dive all over the battlefield with no issues.

    i'm running these specs

    AMD ATHLON XP 2800+ - 2083 MHz
512mb Ram - just bought another 512mb on its way so be 1gb soon
    Geforce 6600 GT 128mb
    19" screen at 1024x768

Field Battles run smooth but when it comes to attacking cities etc it's like death.

In your opinion what are the ideal specs for this game

Awesome can't wait to get this up and running.

Well i have no idea about the ideal specs, i went of the back of the M2 box and went one step better to be sure.

Going by the back of the box recommended specs is:

    Pentium 4 2.4GHz
    1GB RAM (DDR2 right?)
    nVidia Geforce 7300 or greater

    Is that recommended or minimum?

That's awfully low... plus these games are notorius for putting out low specs to sell more games... Rainbow six Vegas listed x1900 as a recommended card, but my 1950xt can't even play that game at playable framerates.

    Default Re: M2TW Performance

that's recommended, but as i said go one step better because that seems to be what the others are doing and my future system a couple of posts up is supposed to be able to run it well.
