9600 vs 6600
ok i know this is a unfair matchup
HOWEVER
i was at ncix and the tech tip gave a interesting presentation
Spider setup= is it really good? 790 FX board with Phenom 9700 with dual 3870 cards in comparison with ASUS P5K ATX LGA775 P35 DDR2 2PCI-E16 3PCI 1PCI-E1 SATA2 Sound GBLAN 1394 Motherboard with Crossfire 3870
Some people have said the 790FX is very close in terms of performance to the qq600 or sometimes even better
im just wondering if this is true or not
I plan to get a new computer, ive studied both companies, and i like em both. I personally favour AMD a little more because of the ATI/AMD deal, but also ive personally always found that ATI has always sharper looking textures rather than Nvidia (correct me if im wrong, no fan boy here)
lets a nice debate no flaming please

Re: 9600 vs 6600
Depends, you haven't stated what cpu your putting inside the asus board. The fact is the core 2 quad's are much better than the phenoms but the 790FX allows upto 4 graphics cards. So if you think that crossfire x has potential for you in the future i would consider this option.
However i think crossfire x is beign developed on intel based boards as well and these should take core 2 cpu's which would be vastly superior.

Re: 9600 vs 6600
Whilst the Phenom chips are cheap and represent good value for money, there not without problems. A bug in the manufacturing process means the CPU has been found to have a huge performance hit (as much as 10% to 50%) even with the ‘fix’. Link
I would like to recommend the AMD chip but the Core 2 Duo’s are so fast it’s hard to recommend anything else. Unless your upgrading from an existing AM2+ platform would go down the Core 2 Duo route even though future upgrade paths are limited due to Intel’s constant tinkering with their chipsets.
BTW 2x 3870’s in crossfire scale really well, good choice.
