Default TALK THREAD: Start Up Crashes

If you're having recurring startup crashes when trying to load BC please:

    1) Post a formatted report in the official report thread: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=140875

    2) Discuss it here.

First thing I want to know: If you are having a startup crash, what patch are you on?

Also if you previously had a startup crash but solved it, please explain how you did so here.

I am not sure if this has caused the start-up CTD, but If you have unpacked the files, you must delete descr_geography_new.db and descr_geography_new.txt in order for game to run. This is per CA direction.

Ok , i went out of my ways and bought Kingdom expansion, with 4 half baked mods that i will never play for sure.(just to let you know guys how much i wanted BC )

That was after trying dozen of times to get it run with just M2TW and 1.2 patch and keep getting CTD on start up

This what i did and it worked (found most of it on official forums):

    1. Uninstalled MTW2 (IMPORTANT : delete M2TW folder in SEGA folder after uninstall)
    2. Reinstalled MTW2
    3. Copied the files from the Kingdoms disc 1 to a new folder and then took disc 1 out
    4. Put Kingdoms disc 2 in and opened the setup from the new folder
    5. Disc 2 updated MTW2 to 1.2, then 1.3
    6. Installed BC
    7. Installed all applicable quick fixes

Didn't got CTD after i started BC.

Noticed couple of things , that can or cannot be important.Up to BC team to check on that :

    1) 1.2 patch that is posted on CA site for people without Kingdoms is marked 1.02.000, while patch on Kingdoms disk is 1.02.001. Not sure did CA have some fix in later one , that they never mentioned.I know that after i install 1.02.000, i could not patch that to 1.03(tried several times), but with 1.02.001 i was able to in first try.

    2) It does looks to me that even with XP , you do need 1.03 patch in order for BC to work properly.

    3) missing text in game and random CTD could be related to unpacking process not working properly and randomly missing some files during installation of patches(per official forums info's) and/or BC

Would this be in the Vanilla folder or is it tucked away in the BC files? I looked but couldn't find it. I guess if I can't play BC I'm stuck playing SS...

    K.K

    EDIT:
Re-installing and applying the 1.02.001 and 1.03.000 patches (and then installing BC 1.0 and 1.5, of course) solved the problem! I didn't even have to apply the "Vista Fix". Have played quite a few rounds now, without a single crash! Superb mod so far.

Im having the same problem, get the exact same logfile, cept the german bit because im running english 1.02. I downloaded 1.03 but when i tried to run it i got the msg "This 1.03.000 update cannot be applied to the 1.02.000 version of the game"(same happened when i re-installed and tried to patch 1.00.000 vanilla)..more bloody problems I've also downloaded BC by torrent and filefront so it isn't a DL error. I get the impression only people running 1.2 are getting this error, yeah?

I had same problem last night with 1.02.000, and tried it several times.Only after i got 1.02.001 from Kingdoms CD i was able to upgrade to 1.03.After that BC worked.

Does anyone knows is there any difference between 000 and 001 version of 1.02 patch?

No, apparently there are many 1.2 users that are running fine.

    I recommend that you:

    1) Reinstall M2TW
    2) Install Patch 1.3
    3) Reinstall BC and apply the first two quick fixes (settlement + georgia)
    4) Load it up.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
    @DigitalMarine

You DO NOT install patch 1.3 over Patch 1.2. These patches are stand-alone. Install M2TW then install 1.3 right away, thats it.

    IT ****ING WORKED!!!!!

    So here are the steps:
    Reinstall MII
Download a new, fresh 1.02.001 patch from this link http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/p...war/patch.html
Once thats done install 1.3 patch
    Install BC
Fix all the bugs from the "Quick fix" thread...
    thats it!!!!

So if you CTD during start-ups and you have 1.2 patch, I think should help!

    Uninstall MII
Download a new, fresh 1.02.001 patch from the link above
Once thats done install 1.3 patch
    Install BC
Fix all the bugs from the "Quick fix" thread...
    thats it!!!!

So if you CTD during start-ups and you have 1.2 patch, I think should help!
Thats what i was keep saying , it looks like there is some difference between 1.02.000 and 1.02.001 that causes problems with installing 1.03 over it.

Glad that it works for you now

None of those 1.02.001 mirrors are working for me for some reason or other and I had no problem downloading 1.02 and 1.03...

I had a crash at startup: the DOS window appeared and then "unexpected error". Being my Luddite self I applied the "Vista" fix and it works a charm since.

The funny thing is that I don't have Vista; I'm still running XPpro.

    Go figure.
