Default Online Clans for IBFD Mods

As many of you are aware, a few of us have been slowly forming an online community to further enrich our experience of these fantastic late Roman mods of RTW/BI. Already, a Roman clan now exists tentatively entitled 'Domesticus Tutor' (but perhaps being renamed soon into 'Comitatus') and several online battles have taken place. As you all know, fighting against a real opponent versed in late Roman history and battle tactics is much more rewarding than against the AI.

Ideally, it would be great if a few more clans appeared which sponsored non-Roman factions and with whom our clan could issue or receive the odd challenge or even stage a tournament with. As there are so many factions in IBFD/IJ/RIO, I wondered if it were better to 'group' the factions/clans into the following areas so as to present a variety of troops and forces within each clan:

    For example:

The Roman clan includes: Western and Eastern Romans, Constantinian Romans, and Romano-British.

The German clan would include: Franks, Saxons, Burgundians, Vandals and Alemanni

The Goth clan would include: Ostrogoths and Visigoths

The Nomad clan would include: Huns, Iazyges, Hepthalites, etc.

The Persian clan would include: Persians, Armenians

The Desert clan would include: well, desert peoples

The Celtic clan would include: just Picts

These are just rough ideas but might allow clans to field a wide variety of armies in multiple matches and keep it fresh. It would be great if a Goth or Persian clan arose soon and really forced the Roman clan to keep on its toes online. We could even progress to re-enacting online large historical battles in 3v3 multiplayer matches lag and processor speeds allowing!

I'd like to change the Persian Clan to Eastern and include the Indian Guptas as well.

It may be a good idea at first to start off this way but as interest grows and more people join it may be wise to split em up even more so. I'm sure you will begin to see sort of nationalistic players who would like to play a specific faction that represents them best. Also certain specific factions I think grab a hold of a player a bit more than factions that are similar...more of an identity thing.

Well I thought it would be nice to have a separate Eastern Empire Clan closely allied to the original clan to start off with, but that will come after the first is good and off the ground. I'm sure with the amount of Brits a Pict/Romano-British set of clans won't be far behind the first to get off the ground.

Other mods have really gained a large online gathering, so I'm sure that if publicized enough IBFD won't be far behind within a few weeks and months.
Yes, I hate the fact RTW is out and I still have a Japanese title. Come on now admins- let's get with the program.

I agree that over time people will split and focus on specific factions. What made me think in these terms were the historical situations which saw conglomerations of tribal groups coalescing to overwhelm the Roman empire - in particular the great Barbarian Conspiracy of 367. The initial clans might in some way represent, although clumsily, those events . . .
