What do you think government should do? In other words how dependent on government to you want to be?

For those that choose anyhing but the last option, can you please explain your rationale for expecting government to serve your wants.

By minimal income I did not mean minimum wage. Ny minimal income I am suggesting the government will enur a person is provided necessities even if that person never tries to provide for himself. It could be any form you might imagine it to be.

Simply put, they should do whatever their people want them to do. Overwhelming majority rules (2/3). If in 2010 the people of France want public health care, they should have it. If in 2020 they want private, they should have it.

I am aware of that, it is still discrimination against the majority. Which is just as wrong as discrimination against a minority. Anyone that claims otherwise is a liar who deserves to be punched in the face.

The language of the poll is unfair, for example:

"Make sure everyone has equal access to medical treatment" implies that the government should force equal medical treatment on everybody, and I don't believe in that, nor would many people.

"Provide a minimum income" implies government taxes go on paying people's salaries... which is entirely different from setting a minimum wage.

Make sure everyone is guaranteed a minimal retirement
Make sure everyone has equal access to medical treatment
Pay for college

Are you aware of what the minimum wage is in America? $7.50/hour. (coming early '09) Which is plenty for someone to live on. Upper wages in the US are only 15-20/hour.

Well, if corporations - or anyone else - violate people's rights either by force, the threat thereof or (as is more likely) by fraud then the law will protect people from such practices as it would if an individual were to do it.

I am of the belief that a government is the servant of the people and gains its just powers from the governed. It can therefore never justly do something, scale aside, that an individual cannot do within his own sphere.

i was gonna vote but the poll seems somewhat biased, its also far to short. for instance i don't think the government should "provide a minimum income" but i do think they should set a minimum wage. the poll is clearly biased towards the OPs beliefs.
