I've completed several different campaigns on Medium campaign difficulty in the past, and decided to try Very Hard with the Parthians (first faction east of Italy that I've played!) last week. I'm a veteran nerd so I've poured in alot of hours over the past 7 days.
Well, I'm giving up on this campaign today. It is insane. And I'm playing with what is probably (by my estimate) the easiest faction available. Roughly 50% of my battles have resulted in Heroic Victories, with the other half being Clear Victories, due solely to the all-powerful horse-mounted cheezball archers. I lose 0-10 units a battle, on average. BUT THE HORDES KEEP COMING! GOD, ITS SO REPETITIVE AND MONOTONOUS!!
How can this be fun for anyone?? I have about 30 provinces, and there's no way I'm going to torture myself more to get the full 50. Good grief.
The really disturbing thing is, as I've mentioned, Parthia must be the easiest faction to play as, period, because of the limited number of fronts + horse archers. You only have to look west and north to find enemy armies, and the HAs negate morale loss entirely and ensure every battle ends in Clear or Heroic.
to those of you who are VH players, (I know there's a fair number of you, because everyone recommends VH) what are the toughest factions you've played as-- and won with-- on Very Hard campaign diff? What was your army composition?
I restored Parthia to its traditional borders-- against the combined wills of Pontus and Egypt-- and that's as far as I'm going, lol. The Brutii and Egyptian navies flood the seas, Scythia takes 30 turns just to walk through.... no more pain!! lol...
