Along the same lines is Shoplifters of the World Unite, especially the beginning of the verse. A possibly unique reference to Channel 4 in the lyrics too.

The Smiths are probably the beginning of modern British Rock.
Every British band is inspired by them in some way.

First time I've heard 'How Soon is Now?' and it's already on of my favourite Smiths songs.
The other is 'Bigmouth Strikes Again'.

I guess that's a give away, all rock music is inspired by the Beatles

Though I like the music, appreciate the song writing and lyrics, there is just something about his voice that goes through me.
