I'd suggest Ruina Romae. I'm currently playing it, and it's lots of fun. I've even bothered finishing my campagins, unlike other mods.
Hi suntaiguy, All three mods now use the mod switcher(Rios Mod first needs the orig. bi folder copied and changed to rio) The mod switcher format is designed so many different mods could be downloaded in your rtw folder and played.
The three mods are different from each other. The Imperium Julianorum starts of at the time of Julian the Apostate, 355AD-361AD: There are two campaigns and it gives the player a chance to finish what Julian may have wanted to do and the Julian mod is very true to the historical era it represents. Second is Ruina Romae. Ruina Romae is during Alaric's sack of Rome. The Roman Empire is still a huge powerful faction but it is now in desperate position to withstand an equal in the East, the Sassanids and the growing Germanic upheavals. It is the Mother to the other two mods: the original IBFD mod that the Julian and Rio Mod originate from. The Rio VII Flagellum Dei has two spread out campaigns, one during the time of Attila and the mighty Hunnic Empire and the second at 463AD, a decimated Roman Empire in the West. The Rio Mod uses a different map:I ce Torques BI Warmap and focuses not as much on the Eastern factions. It adheres to a different philosophy in constructing cities and armies thus very different in a lot of aspects.
I would give all three a try, maybe read up on the mods and start off to what ever mod interests you the most but the mod switcher format now should make it easier to do...hope you enjoy![]()

Hi Suntaiguy23 and welcome to the forum. I'm not a developer but a loyal player of ibfd. I've played all of them and, as Ramon said, they have different flavours. You can have them all of them installed at once now. My suggestion as a player is to do it. You'll have a hell of a time, I assure you.
Ramon and Rio have really said it all. The only other comment I would make is in reference to the main Imperium Julianorum 361AD campaign. You will find that you are in control of the whole Roman Empire, and not just a half or a province. But be warned, this is not easy, with many factions attacking the empire, let alone rebels from within.
This is not for the fool hardy and I would recommend for beginners to start with Ruina Romae, though these mods aren't easy either, each has it's challenges.
And yes, each mod is designed to capture to flavour of the times. Think of it as a history lesson from the mid 4th century to the mid 6th century (if you include Elrond's Justinian sub-mod).
Cheers
hello great responses i tried ruina romae but the problem is that my hardrive can't handle any more total war(i use mod switch and seperate installs( i have rtr extended realism ,europa barbarum, roma surectum, medieval two w kingdoms, stainless steal, and as of yesterday broken cresent and ruina romae), im loving ruina roma so far but now im curious about the other two, im a strait up roman player if this helps and i refuse to part with any of the mods i have now each holds a different place in my heart

It depends whether you would prefer to lead Rome back to greatness, and lead the life of Julian the Apostate.
hello guys, i, personally, would prefer to play the game that is the most historically accurate about late antiquity of Europe (and dark age beginning). so what do you suggest? IBFD, Rio VII or Imperium Julianorum, or even vanilla BI?
A very discussed question...I suggest you to start from IBRR and then to try all the mods!!!!! All of them are very accurate!
