An Amusing Diplomatic Incident...

So I found myself at war with...just about everyone. Not a good place to be. Portugal was not my biggest threat (Byzantium carried that honor), so I sent a diplomat to try and get a ceasefire. I offered:

Portugal came back with a demand for map information and offered 'ACCEPT OR WE WILL ATTACK'. Kind of annoyed, I countered by offering:

That, stupid as it looks, was countered by Portugal:

When I saw that, I had to laugh. I went ahead and accepted it and managed to get a slight improvement in our diplomatic relations out of it. The war still goes on...

I had that one as well a couple of times, it is probably a bug since it would be more logical for the AI to ask for a ceasefire in this situation.

Rolling off the Stairs Laughing. Now seriously, haven't seen that before. I had some silly counteroffers on the AI's account (like "O: Trade , Map Info / D: Map Info" was countered with an additional demand of 23 florins o.O), but never something like that. Great stuff.

I have had some odd diplomacy issues in my Teutonic Campaign. Poland declared war on me because I had taken the Holy Roman Empire's side in a war between them but after two turns they asked me to rekindle the alliance. So I did the same thing I did to them on their first offer, I demanded 4,000 florins and they accepted once again. So basically instead of spending 4,000 florins to maintain an alliance they spent 8,000... and oddly enough they went neutral after two turns because I chose the Holy Roman Empire's side once again. The Mongols keep asking me to ally every other turn or so as well, they always decline my offers even though they are rated as "very generous..." I take it that it is because they are bankrupt and cannot afford to pay me 4,000 florins for an alliance.

yeah that happens if you counter offer a proposal that says "Accept or we will attack"

I always like when the council of nobles sends me off to go buy some city from a neighbor and when I ask what they want they come back with a ridiculously low amount and accept or we will attack. Well... alright... if I must
