    Default 2D-ARTWORK FOR RS2

This thread is going to be ONLY for RS2 Interface and Banner artwork. I'm starting a new one because the Faction Banner thread is two big and outdated, and this one will concern a lot more than just Faction Icons. Bear with me Nurhrachi as I try to get some examples in here.

Ok, just so people know, this is what the UI will look like when the RS1.5 fix is uploaded:

    Roman:

    Greek:

    Barbarian:

    Eastern:

    Egypt:

    Carthage:

Note that the large round buttons in the lower right hand corner have all been changed to reflect a building or a person...building cue, units...respectively.

Those buttons are controlled by this file:

I've blown this file up slightly so you can see it better, it includes the new buttons AND all the new RS2 Faction icons. This file is located in the UI folder, and is different for each culture. In this case I changed it to a .jpg, but normally it is a targa with an Alpha channel that looks like this:

I export the Alpha channel before working on the file. That way, when it gets messed up, I can just import it back in and all is well. Apparently, touching ant part of the image that the Alpha channel masks messes it up....but it must be there for the file to work right.

This file is the one that controls the rest of the game Interface on the botom. Again, it is different for each Culture:

It is a pain in the rear, because it 'wraps around' in part, and you have to line up a couple areas.

The file below is the last example of our new faction icons:

Unfortunately, nothing more was ever done, and the art for some of them was never given to me, so I had to use what I had.

These 'icons' determine what this looks like:

    And this:

    And this:

They are generated from files located here:

    Here:

    And here:

It is these files, Nurhrachi, that I would like done first. It's going to take a bit of study and detective work to figure out what goes with what in terms of Factions, because what a faction is called in the game (and therefore the name of the file) isn't at all what the Factions name really is. But I'll help you figure it out.

instead of the head for the recruitment icon maybe we can stay with the Generic Style but use unique units for each of the soldiers on the button..

I actually like this system; you click on the head for building people, and you click on the building to build buildings.

Can I make a plea for a simple background in the central bottom bit. These ones look too busy for me - difficult to see what buildings / units are there

Well thats plenty for me to get started on. But I'm still a little confused on what you exactly want me to do, or if i'm still using Photoshop and Illustrator for this job. I know you want me to work on the Faction Icons, but what i'm supposed to do with them is beyond me

Basically to add the agreed faction icons (see above) to the various parts of the UI screens - for example the loading screens. I think the icons themselves have now been finalised so that bit of work is over now.

And there's a lot of stuff after that

So you guys basically want me to take the New faction icons, cut them up int singular icons, and replace them with their old counter parts. Right?

Yup, the primary thing right now for RS2 2d art is to replace the old icons with the new ones.

I'll get rid of the busy patterns then today. But as far as the rest, no time.
Something different can be done for RS2 if people want.

Nurhrachi...the last three pictures are the FILES that the icons have to be converted into....
I have to re-upload the files Spartan did, I see Filefront deleted them...

I agree, the busier/more complicated that image, the harder it is to see what the city has. I'd rather see a somewhat muted pattern (like the Barbarian and Carthage ones), not a striking scenic image. The Egyptian one in particular is distracting.

instead of the head for the recruitment icon maybe we can stay with the Generic Style but use unique units for each of the soldiers on the button..
Again I agree, the heads/portraits don't imply a military function, it's not intuitive that you'd click on them to build units... but the new building images are very cool.

Yeah it's not just this stuff but there's banners for the armies to be carrying, for the town squares and so on.

Well okay then. I'm betting you want these things in circles. I'll have them ready for email tomorrow. Besides this is just basically cookie cutting.

If you have those all by tomorrow I'll eat this website. I don't think you understand. That picture is a low res. example of the icons, I have most of the .psd files they were based on, but some of them are missing.

Also, there are 262 files that have to be made....and that's just the icons.

    Which are these files:
    http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/2...ture015br6.jpg
    http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/4...ture017bb5.jpg
    http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/6...ture016iy4.jpg

    But if you compare this:
    http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/2...tpage02el4.jpg

You'll see that some of the icons are different.

Here are the actual names each icon has to have as reflected in the pictures above:
