    Default Profound Sayings

The ones that really make you think twice regarding some situation. I got dozens, but only a few at the top of my mind, here's the first:

"History is damned to repeat its evil things when good men stand by and do nothing to learn from it."

A hybrid of history being damned to repeat itself and the evil things happen when good people stand by and do nothing.

    Got any?

Skill without imagination is craftsmanship and gives us many useful objects such as wickerwork picnic baskets. Imagination without skill gives us modern art.

"Whoever is playing, the game is still roulette."

It disregards pre-existing beliefs and states matter-of-factly that it doesn't really matter who's throwing the dice, the game is still the same.

We are all visitors to this time, this place. We are just passing through. Our purpose here is to observe, to learn, to grow, to love... and then we return home.- I think I heard it on Living Black.

I do not know with what weapons world war three will be fought, but I know that world war four will be fought with sticks and stones. - Albert Einstein.
According to the Theory of War, which teaches that the best way to avoid the inconvenience of war is to pursue it away from your own country, it is more sensible for us to fight our notorious enemy in his own realm, with the joint power of our allies, than it is to wait for him at our own doors.

Why does a slight tax increase cost you $200.00 and a substantial tax Cut saves you $0.30?
As a teenager, I was taken to various houses and flats above takeaways in the north of England, to be beaten, tortured and raped over 100 times. I was called a “white slag” and “white ****” as they beat me.

Let them call me a rebel, and welcome; I feel no concern from it. For I should suffer the misery of devils, were I to make a whore of my soul.

edit: How apropriate that my 666th post should be about rebels.

"Learning is not virtue but the means to bring us an acquaintance with it. Integrity without knowledge is weak and useless, and knowledge without integrity is dangerous and dreadful. Let these be your motives to action through life, the relief of the distressed, the detection of frauds, the defeat of oppression, and diffusion of happiness." - General Nathaniel Greene

This means no matter how much you learn, how much you know it is all worthless unless you use it for good.

The other quote in my sig:

"America is not at war, the military is at war. America is at the mall."

This references how despite the fact that America is at war, life goes on normally for anyone not connected to the military. It also is to show the apathy of the average citizen who will put a support our troops bumpersticker but doesn't really care about the soldiers.

    And finally:

    We the willing
    Led by the unknowing
    Have done the impossible
    For the ungrateful.
    We have done so much
    With so little
    We are now qualified
    To do anything with nothing.

But the fact that some geniuses were laughed at does not imply that all who are laughed at are geniuses. They laughed at Columbus, they laughed at Fulton, they laughed at the Wright brothers. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown.

Are you suggesting there should be one law for the rich and another for the poor?

No, my dear, we are discussing the world we live in, not the one we wish to.
