RTRGold Problem...

I've tried uninstalling RTW and all related things, and deleted all the files. I reinstalled it fresh and tried to upgrade to the 1.2 patch, but my computer says I've already upgraded to 1.2. Then when I install RTR 6 and try and open the game, it crashes. I assume because everything wasn't gone from when I uninstalled the game.

My first question is obviously, what do I do to fix it? Second, if for some reason there's nothing I can do, will this affect RTR 7?

(Note: No RWT 1.2 patch appears in the list of add and remove programs.)

Firstly, what version is your default RTW? Is it v1.2 or is it v1.5? Secondly, take a look at this thread:

Apologies, I started to answer about 5 minutes ago and got sidetracked. Then I couldn't find where your post was....

Anyway, it's possible to manually uninstall 1.2. What has happened is that traces remain in the windows registry and they have to be removed.

I've found the following thread in the RTR PE forum (which was copied from one of our older forums which is now closed) (see under the heading "How can I install the official version 1.2 patch manually");

Hi,
I did a clean installation of RTW (activision) and patched to 1.2 (although I didn't check if it really installed by running RTW) after that I installed RTR 6.0 gold and the music add-on.

Now when I try to run RTR it shows you the intro and everything fine yet when you select to play a new campaign, after about 2 seconds the screen where you choose your faction stutters, freezes and then the screen goes black and my computers restarts itself.

what should I do? I tried deleting that map.rwm file I saw some people posting about, that didn't help. And I tried changing that thingy for the tutorial but when I open te preference.txt I get a blank screen without text or anything.

Help me please!

To be able to change stuff in the pref.txt you'll have to start a Custom Battle or a Campaing.

I don't know if it applies to Gold but there are several map.rwm. Be sure that you have deleted all of them

I uninstalled RTW and all that was with it and reinstalled,patched to 1.2 and installed RTR 6.0gold succesfully (i think) but when i start the game the window closes very fast (just after the first red screen)

can someone help me plz?

By red screen you mean the ones with the activision credits and such? In RTRPE it should be white:

Maybe you have installed it in a wrong folder. Also, do you get an error message after the crush? See the last section from this post on how to implement the -show_err command:

yes that screen but then the red version from the vanila's
i do not get a error message....

if installed RTR in the same place as RTW1.2 but i have few to none expecience with working with software at all and don't know most terms wich are more complicated then unzipping so basicly i'm a total noob at this kind of stuff and have no idia were to find every thing

You see the olive/gold (RTR) copyright screen and then the red original copyright screen? I've never heard of that before.

If your folder structure looks like this (I keep a clean RTW patched to 1.2 for any mods that need this version);

c:\Program files\Activision\Rome - Total War

When you install a mod just point it to this folder and not any other path or sub folder (apart from the TIC extras which needs to be pointed to the TIC sub folder). The game should install OK.

When you downloaded the game did you put it in a different folder than the game folder? It's always best to create a work folder to keep your downloads in and then run the install from there (but pointing it to the game folder as shown above).

If the result of uncompessing the file is an 'exe' just run it and follow the instructions.

When you install the game please run the game after each patch. It means that if one step fails you will spot it immediately and not install other patches or mods to find that the end product doesn't work. It's done that way to help isolate where a problem starts. I've installed games and mods to only find I messed up along the way and had to restart the process.

Ok heres my problem: I install fresh Rome Total War on my C: disc (to the folder it reccomends, i just click next next etc.) and it all goes well. I can play it without any problem, i install patch 1.2 and it also works. Then i install RomeTotalRealism_6.0_Gold and it goes trough. Now when i try to start game for the frist time i see that picture of Europe (not from the original RTW but the one from RTR greenish one) and it looks like game is about to load but then it simply drops back to desctop. Later whenever i try to start game i simply get a black screen and then immedieatly it crashes...

I have 2 GHz processor, 4Gbs of RAM and pretty good graphics card so it cant be hardware, and i played RTR about 6 months ago before i had to reinstall windows (XP professional at the moment). Im also 100% sure that everything else including direct X and media player meets the requirements. The thing that troubles me most is that i used to play the other version of RTR, the one with Barbarian Invasion.

If anyone has any suggestion plz share cuz i really wanna play the darn game :hmmm:!

First you might have an error. So go to the properties in the shortcut on desktop, go to shortcut at top tab, go to target and add this -show_err and make sure you click spacebar after the quotation mark or it wont work.

The version of RTW you are playing is definitely 1.2 right? I only ask that as you mentioned playing RTR using the BI exe. Installing BI brings RTW to 1.4 and RTW BI to 1.5 (the original versions).

The version number of the game is on the options menu on the top right hand side.

Ok so I downloaded and installed RTRGold6.0...but everytime I choose my faction and press the continue arrow it going back to the "New Campaign" screen....any ideas?

What`s the error when you exit? Usually a mistake in descr_strat has that effect. If you have the -show_err command implemented you have probably received an error message after exiting the game. If you don`t know how to set the -show_err see the end of this post:

What vesion of RTW do you have btw? You haven`t said anything about what patches you have installed.

I was told RTRGold only runs with RTWv1.2 so thats all I have.

Firstly, are you sure that you have RTW v1.2? For this you would need to start with a clean version of RTW v1.0 and intall the RTW v1.2 patch. Correct? You can check what version your game is by going to the Options menu in game and looking at the upper right corner.

Secondly, there is no such thing as RTRGoldv6.3. There is just RTR 6 Gold. RTR v6.3 is a previous version of that. So, again, could you give more details as to where you got the mod from and the order of your install?

I am assuming this has something to do with me "unlocking" factions that dont exsist- lol, I put everything back where it was, the Brutii are again under nonplayable, but its giving me same error.

When I load the game it says RTRv6.3 Final Version on the lower right hand corner.

Well I needed the space so once I downloaded and installed I removed the saved copy...I will try and find it again and post a link here.

Nvm, I got it. Thanks! I just reinstalled it lol. Didnt really start it yet anyway

Please don't double post. Your last post doesn't add anything to this thread either (the fact that you've reinstalled but haven't started the game).

We can't really help out when you start modifying the files especially when you don't reveal that fact.
