Today France vs Moors. I killed 2000 captured 4900 and lost 163 men.
Moors have 3 full stacks all with 2200,2400,2600 I had less than 2200.
One thing Moors did not have Crusaders knights. 30 turn in campaign and I can recruit 3rd tier unit. It is to damn powerfull (I lost only40 of them).This should be changed
Battle screen give wrong info about power of units in this case I was to powerfull against Moors spears, Desert riders and javelins (1 general 5 x-bows, 6 crusaders sergeant ,4 maceman) most of my casualtes come from siege engines.Actualy power bar said that odds are 1:4 against me (how?).
My inf did not figt at all.

The Moors lack heavy cavalry and horse archers unlike the Ottomans or the Fatimids, so being dominated by Western cavalry is "normal" in my opinion. Only Dismounted Arab Lancers present enough challenge to direct cavalry charges (and those Eastern Bodyguards...way too tough in melee ;/).

I have the opposite problem--my battle odds seem to be heavily favour me, to the point that when fighting =< 4 units, unless I send my general alone, the battle odd would be >1.

First two armies of Moors merged then attacked me but they had only captains so I smashed them.This is permanent problem with captains my general had few stars but he was not dreaded but Moors after few charges start fleeing.I did not kill any captain before rout.3rd Army had better general than mine but after firs engage they start to retreat and I charged them from back. Something must be done with captains because - read my first post

Are you playing with Lustid's new AIs? They make the CPU armys smarter on the field. Also if you don't like the speed with witch you got to the 3rd tier try the Real Recrutment system. It is still in a sort of pree beta state but it dose a decent job at slowing down the tech progresion.

3rd tier units are avaible from start if you are going on crucade.
Lusted last battle AI. It work fine no comment on that.
Real question was why I was able to recruit 3rd tier unit so early in the game (even AI can't build that fast and I m not in position to build 3rd tier buildings).

Just go on crusade and you will have 3rd tier units.

That is kind of odd. You traind them you say? I could see geting tier 3 as mercs just for going on a crusade, wouldn't make much more sence but some, but if they are traind by you that dosen't make much sence at all, especialy with out the biuldings requierd... neet trick though.

he didn't train them - he recruited them. Crusading mercs are tier 3 (Ex. feudal knights,mounted and dismounted, armored sergeants etc etc)

Stupid question more than likely.. but..

I am playing an older saved data. I want to make sure it is VH/VH. How do I go about checking this? I'm pretty sure it is since I always play on VH/VH, but it's bugging me.

And no, i wasnt fighting peasants... Actually fought about 5-6 cavalry divisions (feudal knights and some mounted huskarls), plenty of icelandic axemen/norse war clerics/foot huskarls/norse swordsmen. 3 norse archers, iirc, as well.

Basically, all of the enemy cavalry met their doom when facing my Burgher pikemen. You would laugh at the way they dispatched both generals. Then i decided to ride the enemy with my 3 cavalry divisions, and they all fled like chicken. VH/VH, obviously.

If you lower the price, you would make them uber-powerful, as they are cheap enough for the player at they are now.

Yes they will be more avaible for player but AI just look on the price of the unit not upkeep
