    Default Photo editing tools

Could someone give me a list of ALL good tools that compare with photoshop. Mine is expired and it is too expensive, $1300, for the edition that I use. I would be glad to give limes a hand but cant until I get something comparable to photoshop. Also DO NOT suggest GIMP, that program annoys the hell out of me, it opens up three screens(windows or whatever they are called), and the tools are crap.
I need a quick answer, but please only suggest ones that are free.

    Irfanview

Btw, GIMP isn't crap, you just have to get used to it, but it's an awesome program for being free.

All I can suggest is finding a girlfriend who is also a graphic artist.

As an added bonus, you get sex!

Yeah, that would be nice but not an option at the moment. Anyway thanks for the answers, I prefer GIMPshop. It rocks!

Paint.Net. Look for plugins as well.

GIMP is much harder to use than photoshop, but it is free...

Paint.net is great too, although I don't personally like its interface.

If you're interested in the graphical medium, ArtRage lets you use a digital canvas, but it's more for painting than photo editing.

If you have a Mac, Pixelmator is excellent.

Vector art programs are useful too, if you want to use them. Lineform is for the Mac again, but great.

What type of medium are you using? CS3 extended is like $600, and cheaper if you are a student. Personally, I think that the high prices encourage piracy. I'm not in the graphics business, so I'm not going to pay that much money for Adobe's premium products. If they were 100 bucks I'd buy it...

It’s not a pro package like Photoshop but Paintshop Pro is a great little tool if you want to make images from scratch. I got into Paintshop Pro after seeing Richard Topping’s Masterclass on .TV years ago and for me it does everything I want it to although latter versions seem a little bit harder to use then the older version.

I'm with Freddie, I've used Paint Shop Pro since version 8 (now 11 or something). It's a powerful little program that in the right hands can output some high quality results (loadboy.com). It doesn't have all the bells and whistles but it's affordable and good enough for most peoples needs.

For me Paintshop hasn't been the same since version 7.

Did anyone here watch .TV and Richard Topping? This clip I found on Youtube might jog you memory.

Big black hair and goofy bucked teeth means he will never appear on the BBC but he was great presenter, I learnt so much from his Masterclass shows. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't know half the stuff I know now. From Masterclass I'm familiar with Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, Adobe Premiere, Flash, Dreamweaver, and Access. As I said for all my technical knowledge and my enthusiasm for just about everything to do with games and computers comes from this guy.

Yeah I didn't start using it until version 8 and even then it wasn't until version 9 that I really got familiar with it. It's a shame Jasc sold out to Corel though, cause now they are pushing it to a photo editing product.
