Whats the trigger for this? I've never seen it before, but today it came up for my king in an AAR Campaign I'm doing.
It came up the first turn after I'd sailed the old royals out on a boat to die. About 6 turns into the game.

Did he just successfully complete a crusade?
Hit them as hard as you can, as fast as you can, where its going to hurt them the most..... and preferably when theyre not looking!
No, I've not done anything other than set up the story for my AAR. Killed a few rebels, killed off the original royal family, married him to a HRE princess and gave away some land to Ireland and Scotland.
Could be done by recruiting priests / building churches / theologians hq.
I think one of my governors had this trait (He had 5 piety so i placed him in town where i was recruiting all my priests from and i was constantly upgrading
churches - got theologians HQ)
Not sure though, could be mistaken
Ah well, I don't mind how I got it, or if I never get it again. It fits great with the character in my AAR though
Thanks for the answers so far though. I think I may have recruited a few priests the turn before now I think about it.
It's a random unique ancillary that's given to a catholic faction leader after turn 3. There's a 5% chance you get it each turn with your faction leader, provided an AI faction leader doesn't get it first.
I've only ever gotten it by winning a crusade for my generals...but my priests get it after pwning some heretics or witches
