You will be excommunicated, and the Pope will live in the woods around Rome till he gets a new province.

Depends who you are. If you are playing a orthodox faction he will be at war with you and if you are a Muslim faction it is likely he will call a crusade. If you are a catholic faction and you capture it from him he will probably call a crusade. If you captured it from somebody else, you will get a mission to hand it back and be his pet darling.
Officer to a soldier who refuses to fight: There three types of soldiers who don't have to fight. They are called KIA, MIA and POW and you are not one of them.

    Tosa will be missed.

What happens? You take a god-forsaken city somewhere at the outskirts of the map and sell it to the Pope for peace. He moves there and everybody lives happily ever after.

I took Rome and pushed the Papacy into Bordeaux where he remains with nothing but himself. No Armies, no cities, notta.

There's no way out of having a crusade called against you if you take over Rome as a Muslim faction.... I've had one called against me for the past 40 or so years, no one's taken Toulouse yet

MY experience, playing as the Muslim faction of the Moors, in M2TW vanilla 1.2, has been quite surprisingly different:

After beating the Papal forces away from my French holdings several times, I launched a frontal assault on all the Papal states. Rome was the last to fall. The Pope reappeared near Marrakesh, and justs stands there doing nothing. Here is the surprising part: Though I have exterminated most of the Catholic factions (including Spain, Portugal, France, England, Scotland, Venice, Milan, and the Papal states), pummeled most of the rest, and "killed" the Pope in battle at least twice, I have NEVER had a Crusade called against me.

    Go figure.

Maybe because it would seem redundant to call a Crusade. You have already ravaged Europe.

In my game as the H.R.E I killed the pope. Took Rome, and he appeared around the woods of Rome. Killed him again, and he re-appeared at the same location. Killed him again, and he re-appeared at the same location.

It never stopped. I probably has killed 20 popes by the end of the game.

When I took rome the papal states happened to own a single boat which was where the new pope was when he was elected. so I sent my armada and cornered his fleet near one of my cities and there every pope would land near the starting french town near italy. So anytime the Pope didn't like me I would send the city garrison after him. Soon though the demark pope forgave france since I was allied with them so I let him hang near the city until he starts hating me too.

I didn't have any problems with crusades though mainly because the HRE was killed of their backbone of castles by me and Portugal to the south was excomunicated.

I was getting Excommed by pope when I went to take factions last settlements so I would take the city and then kill the pope with an assasain.

Then I thought why not take Rome? I did and the pope died, re-elected pope was my ally so pope was ok with me. Gave him Ajaccio as a home and relations now perfect. Used this oppotunity to call crusade against Marrakesh. There are now 5 crusading armies on route!!!

Rather than it being a problem taking Rome it is helping my end game no-end.

Only prob now is I may comnplete victory conditions before the world is round event happens.

Can you carry on for as long as you want because I want to fight the Mongols and Timurids!!

    Please add rep

I am playing as England for the first time and have found it easy, I am playing on Hard/Hard.
