    Default Auto-merge

    Can you please tell me how to I turn off the auto-merge? I hate this function. It was also in another mod that I have tried, but I've forgotten which mod it was so I can not go look in their forum. I have tried to remember and have searched to find the forum but I have been unsuccessful.

    Thank you in advance

    There was a discussion about this during beta test. The AI doesn't re-train units so this is used to even out the playing field (as it were). It's in the following section of code within the script_iberia_dates.txt file (just remove it);

    HTML Code:
    ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
    ; 1.0 Auto-Merge Units Script ;
    ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

    monitor_event CharacterSelected TrueCondition
    	call_object_shortcut campaign_hud automerge_units
    end_monitor

    monitor_event SettlementSelected TrueCondition
    	call_object_shortcut campaign_hud automerge_units
    end_monitor

    monitor_event FactionTurnStart TrueCondition
    	call_object_shortcut campaign_hud automerge_units
    end_monitor
    Just remove it. But, we aren't responsible for the effects of any modding made by you.....

    I didn't like auto merge when I was first playing TIC. But I think I will leave it as it is. Retraining a unit (one with only a few men left) while also training a new unit in the same town/city is a bit cheap really.
    Thank you to all of the RTR Team.

    The AI only retrains units on rare occasions (after plagues or sieges, when the unit starts and ends a turn in a settlement ), so I think the auto-merge function limits the players advantage in being able to retain shattered units constantly.

    Personally, I think its a terrific feature.

    If I could, I would disable the re-train ability of players entirely.

    Can the auto-merge script be used on other mods like my RTRPE Campaign? It would be quite handy

    'Vanilla' RTRPE don't use script so you'll have the create one firt. The best this is to use them with Marcus Camillus 4tpy script. I even use it for M2TW since I always manual-merge units myself..

    Great thanks for the info, auto-merge seems like it would infinitely improve the AI's chances when playing as the Seleucids or the Gauls...

    You mean you think Seleucids need help in RTR PE?

    In my past 4 RTRPE ExRM campaigns the Seleucids get steamrolled, I have to pay the Ptolemies off every year to keep them from destroying them.

    Personally I like the auto-merge system. Saves me from hitting the M key after every battle.

    Hehe - what sort of an army composition is that Brusilov? Are you refighting Agincourt or something?

    It's a typical garrison force that I use. Although it's a front line garrison force, hence the hypaspistai. OK, it's Rhodes but I don't want to lose that - the 40% sea borne trade bonus keeps my economy alive!

    As the settlement moves further away from the front I will remove all but two of the archer units and a phalanx unit.

    With all those archers, I'd pity any attacker trying it on with elephants.

    The Selucids certainly seem do be doing OK in your campaign, they certainly look to have sorted out the poor old Tollies.

    I've just finished painting Iberia TIC-white again, so I've started a Roma campaign using RTR Extended Realism, which looks like being fun.

    I'm not a huge fan of auto-merge myself but I can understand the benefits for the AI. I wonder if there's any easy way of keeping it for the AI but switching it off for the human player.

    I'm in the process of an incredibly boring multi-hour overhaul of the EDB in the ExRM that I think will finally prevent what you're looking at there. It should also make the barbarians more fun to play.

    May I steal use the auto-merge script from TIC in the ExRM?

    I'd suggest sending a PM to MCM to see if it's OK. Although he didn't code it.

    Experimentation with EB shows that If ALX.exe is used the AI is able to retrain units thus rendering auto merge obsolete. I suppose this isn't an option since RTR is a BI mod but I guess once the final version is released a port to alex can be made by an enthusiast or even by the RTR team. Who knows.

    I know that Lestat is using Alexander to play TIC with. He has mentioned that he will release an 'unofficial' set of files.

    I can't find his post in which he states that though.

    I'm not mental then!
    I was rather worried after a few battles where I had very small units (mostly those wretched Lybian javelinemen) which magically disappeared.:hmmm:

    Now I know where they went and I don't need to feel guilty about retraining!

    PS is it just me or are Lybians hard to keep alive?
