A place of and for medieval history
Pompeius Magnus inspired me to create this thread, as he has put one new pictured info thread about the East Romans into the dev forum, and i thought, why not giving such nice info in our open public threads, but just in one thread, collecting all faction info.
Its purpose is:
- Every faction (or the most) of Chivalry* shall get a short portrait for the timeframe about 1050 - max 1500 AD.
*A faction list is for example in our FAQ thread.
- This portrait shall include accurate descriptions, eventually also timelines, regional possesions etc.
- Especially well-researched pictures of units, its leaders (kings etc.), sources ie. from Osprey.
All picture material must be described with: What it shows and date/s, and important, its sources. Same is valid for any pure text descriptions/researchments.
So let it come, all professional and semi-professional historians are welcome.
(This is a test thread, so to say, if there is none or nearly none reaction, then it will be removed again).

Re: A place of and for medieval history
Then I will start
Here I offer some pictures from my book "The Eastern Romans 330 - 1461AD".
Not all of the pictures are reflecting our "Chivarly" time frame, but we have an average feeling of Varangians, heavy Cataphracts, and partially an imperssion of the enemies.

971AD - Silistra: Anemas, bodyguard of Emp. John Tzimikes, forces his horse through Russian troops and attacks Prince Svyatoslav. He throws him from his horse, but he is surrounded and killed by Russian infantry.

1014 AD (Jul.-Sept.) - The Romans Army, led personally by Emp. Basil II, trap the Bulgarians in the Kleidon Pass. 14.500 Bulgarian prisoners are blinded. (This is, by the way, speculation!!!)

1057AD - Michael Psellos, sent by Emp. Michael VI to negotiate with imperial pretender, Isaac Komnenos, is received by Isaac in his tent. He is sourrounded by his Roman guardsmen, axe-bearing Varangians and Italo-Norman guards.

12th century Pronoiarioi and Akritoi. Defenders of the empire

1159AD - Emp. Manuel I forces Reginald, the Norman prince of Antioch to acknowledge his suzerainty. He accompanies Manual - on foot, holding Manuel's stirrup - in his triumphal entry into the city.
