    Default Beyond Caesar?

    Howdy,

This is an idea for future projects for you guys: So far these mods have dealt with the transition from republic to empire, but what about a mod more about the time of the emperors? I would be excited to see a 1st and 2nd century AD mod that featured things like Claudius conquering Britannia or Trajans war against Dacia all the way to Marcus Aurelius.

I just think it would be great to see Rome at it's height just before it started its long decline and lots of lorica segmentata! Whaddya think?

Unfortunately I do not believe anything like this is being planned at the moment.

A mod about the life of Octavian (Augustus) would be a good idea!

I could be named 43 BC, starting with the Battle of Mutina and ending with in 31 BC with the sea battle of Actium.

    What do you think?

the original FRRE concept was planned to involve campaings from Marius to Marcus aurelius, unfortunately the scope was so big that we had to focus on more important issues.
Our capacity is limited since we have few members with modding skills (any help will be appreciated).
the team is in standby right now after releasing 58Bc.
The next project will be a Marius/Sulla campaing, but this is not confirmed yet (although we have worked on the map)

    regards

New version of all 77BC and 58BC can be found HERE

Definitively, the next project is going to be Marius vs. Sulla. I am currently working with a new map for this mod, using Webbird's 270 BC map, that we have got permission to use. In fact, MvS is going to be quite a complex work as it is going to feature two playable campaigns and we still need some new units that we have no artist to produce. In the meantime, 77 BC 3 is going to appear with a new faction and some other stuff.

After that, a Second Triumvirate (Octavius vs. Antonius) campaign has many chances to see the light. I am also really tempted by a campaign of the Imperial Era. In fact, both Empe and me are admirers of the Emperor Aurelianus.

I think that a mod featuring the crisis of the Third Century, when the Western part of the Empire had rebelled, Palmyra owned the majority of the East and the Barbarians assaulted the Rhin and Danube frontiers on a daily basis might also be interesting.

Is this a large scale map, like the one used in Roma Surrectum? I think the focus on the Roman sphere would make it ideally suited for a big scale, this adds a great deal of tactical maneuver to the map that just isn't possible on a 'regular' scale RTW map...

Great idea, btw -- Sulla and Marius are two of the most fascinating Roman figures who don't get nearly enough attention... I'll be one of the first to download and play!

How about making the Imperial era mods on the M2 engine? You could use the Crusades map from Kingdoms to show the Jewish revolt, or the Britannia map to show the invasion of Britain. The Romans invading Mexico would be awesome too...

The FRRE Team are dyed in the wool Republicans you know

Marius-Sulla (FMIR) is next on the agenda with possibly First and Second Triumvirate Mods (TFT2 and TST respectively) to follow.

The team has talked about transferring to a MTW2 Platform although this remains a more long term objective.

Imperial Era Mods? Well there are one or two ideas kicking around....

However in the immediate future expect to see final versions of 77 and 58 BC being released with various minor tweaks and fixes etc.

For any Imperial Era mod, I'd say the best is either the beginning of the Reign of Octavian, the end of the reign of Augustus (I know, same person) and thus the start of that of Tiberias (Perhaps mutiny problems?) or one that begins with any significant invasion. Claudius and Britain, Corbulo in the East, Trajan and the Dacians, Vespasian and the Jewish revolt.

And as I've said before, with TFT2 and TST, no two HP!

Either way y'all go, it'll be great.

Although two HP made TFT fun....without it, everything would've been very very easy....

TFT 1.9x has a combat system (here edu stats meant only) of 2005, created by an early TFT member, we never really changed that, as it worked quite good. But it won't be applied in this form in any current or future FRRE mod.
