Morea...Hardest Faction? What are the Hardest?

Is Morea, the Greek successor to the Byzantine Empire, the hardest out of all (or most?) factions? I had a terribly hard time for 20 years in the campaign. I barely managed to hold on to what little I had around Greece, and I only colonized the Bermuda island, in the New World. In this order, I was attacked by Albania, Ragusa, The Ottoman Empire, Bosnia, Karaman, The Ottoman Empire (This time, they took Athens from my vassals!). This is one hard game, and I am just playing this on Very Easy! Morea truly is harder than the rest!

If Morea is not hard at all for you, could you tell me which ones are? Thanks.

Morea is not that hard if you manage to survive the first few decades and secure southern Greece, and unite eastern mediterranean islands (expect perhaps Rhodes in Manga Mundi Gold).

I find Serbia quite a challenge each time I play it, as I also find Andalusia.

I remember The Knights being referred to as the hardest in the past. I tried playing with them, it was tricky indeed. You had to avoid war with the Ottomans at all cost.

The Knights are definitely the hardest.

But any of the single province nations are impossibly hard.

Unless your in the HRE of course.

So far I think Khosrosan is the hardest(in NA) faction since you pretty much get swallowed by the Timurids almost immediately after leaving the loading screen.
I play Morea quite often and I can say, that they aren't very hard at all in comparison.
As long as you keep to yourself and only attack nearby countries you can annex,(i.e Montenegro, Albania, Candar etc.) make friends with as many Orthodox factions as you can, and have a stable, modest economy, you can make it through the first game years.(A little luck doesn't hurt either) I unfortunately could never keep EU working long enough to go farther than that but I hoped that helped.

Any pagan nation is basically impossible. I mean... I've done ok with them, but only using the most gamey of tactics. Borderline exploits. And your still screwed because of your limitations.

Odd, i bought this game yesterday and started a morea campaign on easy. Its been almost one decade and i've annexed Athens and The Knights. Before that though i got destroyed on a Navarre campaign, boxed in by France, Spain and Aragon with only 2 provinces.

Serbia, a 1 province state, fields 1000 men and is at war with the Ottomans right at the start of the game. Mehmet coming right for you. I guess you need TONS of luck to survive that.

I suggest you Magna Mundi, the Knights start with a lvl 5 fortress but there are no fortress buildings built yet, so if you built the lvl 2 fortress you'll have 7000 men defending. They also get lots of events that help them particularly if being besieged (like extra attrition). It takes maybe a 15000 - 20000 men to win the siege. As the AI tends to suck at island invasions it gets even easier. Not to forget they are in the western tech group and almost all of your neighbors are eastern or Muslim so it gets easier as time goes on.


Some Morea advice (mostly for Magna Mundi):

Your first goal is diploannexing your vassal Athens, takes about 10-15 years. If the Ottomans dow you in that time, well yeah GAME OVER. Do everything to avoid war with them. Instead try to go for Naxos, then Crete, then Cyprus.
You'll probably be technologically horribly backwards, while the Ottomans get stronger in every way as time goes on, you'll need lots of allies. When the war starts, it is essential that you and your allies navy block the Maramar Sea. That way you only have to face the European Ottoman armies. The best time to attack is when the Ottomans are fighting a mayor war in the east and therefor have most armies down there
So far I managed to prevail only twice in about 6 or more attempts. Good Luck. You'll really really need it.

Most factions are petty hard for me, even though I've had the game for years. Why? I'm stubborn. I was playing the Mamuluks just today, rolling in rebellions, the Qara attacked my allie, Mecca. Stupidly I ran in to defend them, even with rebellions sprouting up left and right. My armies were trashed due to poor luck and never ending waves of enemy forces, and I slowly lost control of Syria and other adjacent provinces. While rebellions took control of most of Egypt proper. This ended with me deleting my campaign and starting over. Had I not been so stubborn and allowed my allie to die, or made peace earlier, my nation would not of imploded. Ah well.

I dont think the hardest nation is Morea, i'd say the hardest is probably Riga or one of those 1 island nations in the east.

No way, The Knight cannot even enter royal marriage at least you change government form.

The best way to play The Knight is Island Hope strategy; try to use the 200 loan rise 3000 infantry and storm most islands around you (you can try Crete if you dare), then disband everything, sit there for 50 years to save both money and gain core in every conquering province. After that, a DoW against Ottoman was possible.

You can also fight Italy minors after Island Hope is finished. although personally I like to Crusade muslim.

Ever tried to free the Zaporozhian Cossacks from Poland-Lithuania, the Tsardom of Russia, the Ottoman Empire and its vassal the Crimean Khanate in order to shape Ukraine?
Zaporozhie is a 1 province state to the north of the Black Sea from the first January, 1555.
I'd say this is one of the hardest one-province factions 'cause its very hard to expand without any other one-province-states next to you. Plus no binding to the sea in order to build ships and take one of those mediterranean one-province-islands or to conquer the New World. The only way seems to go alongside with either Poland or Russia and your hope for a free Ukraine. :hmmm:
As Zaporozhian it's a lot easier to unite Germany than to free Ukraine. Really.

OK if you have time to spend then island solution is to get buck-tweaking to trade,of course,and either keep an eye on situation while having money to get mercs when need arises,either if you Christian faction hit colonial politics.
Generally,it is advisable to start with trade and then since your country is tiny to change to NW-stability is easy to regain with one province.
While Catholic, I always ask Portugal for military access at once-their islands would be a healing base for your explorer ships.

Yeah I tried the Empire of Trebizond before, then attempted to conquer the country around Pontus (Sinope). I failed....despite allying with Georgia.
