Never Seen That Before
Ignore the trait notification. Note the allegiance of the army attacking me.
Russia was besieging that formerly rebel castle, so I ran up and took it same turn with the help of the russians. We won and as I was the attacker I got the castle as usual. After the battle though, the Russians continued to besiege whilst still my ally.
Eventually they starved me out and took the castle. Only then were we at war.
