    Default Playing as Saguntum City-States....

    Hi all,

I made the Saguntum playable, but when i started and played the campaign, i couldnt recruit the greek hoplite and other units. Why does this happen? Then i tried to modify export_descr_building, i added greek hoplite to the counter_faction, slaves, mini_faction, but when i tried to enter in the game, it crashed. What do i need to do? Please, can anyone of u help me??...Kaloni mire...

You are not supposed to play it, the main focus fo the campaign is Carthage and Celtiberia, no other faction will be playable. I think Counter factions and Mini-Factions are coded some what like rebels in teams of terminology

    At first:

Coding in other factions is not recomended unless you have extensive knowledge in RTW code.

To your specific problem: All reqruitment for the non-playable factions is done via script.

If you just want to add unit recuitment in EDB, just look for building that have mini_faction ownership (I think) as it represents the greek-mini factions. The mini-factions do not have their own auxilia/barracks level building but only a specialize building (at the end of the EDB file) which are thre at the start of the campaign and not buildable.

If you create a new buildings, you'll need to add the new entry in the export_building.txt too.

p/s: there's nothing 'magical' in TIC/RTR coding though. If you are having CTD when modding it, then it's probably some code/writing error in your EDB and without error message reported and without actually knowing to what extend you've modded then we surely could not find where the fault it.

It might not be the right place, if so, move it; but in my entire campaign, they never recruited a single greek unit, be they hoplite or theropuroi(sp?). Could these be related? because it was really disheartening for my final battle for victory to be just against Iberians.

I could be wrong, but the Saguntine weren't really Greek as in the normal Greek factions. Their armies are mostly 'barbarian' types. Only the ruling class I think is Greek.

    Exactly,

The amount of actual 'citizens' in such colonies was quite limited. They had to utilize mercenary forces to bolter their ranks, or ally with other cities and fight together.

    cheers,

Sacred band and other elite Carthaginian units like Punic Peltast, Libyan Hoplites etc can only be recruited in you have a Punic Colony in your province (Mosaba Ponit).

In the start of TIC there's only a few provinces that have Punic Colony, for example in Gadir. To get other settlement to become Punic Colony, you'll need to destroy whatever existing building there (for example Lands of Keltoi) and build the Exploration before finally building the Punic Colony.

Once you have Punic Colony, you'll have options to build Carthage Military barracks levels (forgot the Punic names) after Administrative Centre.

If you opt to let the province stay it's default culture, you'll only have options to build Clint Kingdom lines of barracks which only produce aor/auxilia/local units.

Actually in the Grand Campaign, The Sacred Band can only be recruited in Carthage itself only, though we've open up the recruitment system in TIC before people compalin they can't recruit Sacred bands etc...

Yes MCM, u r right, after i accomplished a mission, in Gadir i found a sacred band, but never used it. Interesting was that in the town of Siga, a moorish town, the rebel units, were greek hoplites, thereuphoroi, cretan archers ( liked them a lot )...I have to say it was a little hard for me to take that city...

    This historian is back!

Saguntum is an Iberian city-state; its commoners and aristocrats alike are all Iberians, not Greeks.

The city of Saguntum has been a long-time trading partner of the Greek colonies of Massalia (southern France) and Emporion (north-eastern Iberia). This has meant that Saguntum is heavily Hellenized in terms of its crafts, language and writing, fashions and tastes. Militarily, however, Saguntum remains Iberian.

This is why Greek units like hoplites and thureophoroi should not be found at Saguntum.
