Formerly Tyrtaeus
Hmm, yeh, that is wrong, should be ''Hippeus''oh yeah, spartan HIPPIES
elite infantryman; title of picked Spartan hoplite.
Opps.
Added, rebels factions done so far.
HS,
Looks great!!! Nice gritty feal. My only suggestion would be to hammer out most - maybe not all, but most of the arrow divots and deep cuts in the Spartan Shields.
I could do that, quite a few units need revising to be honest, after doing another twenty min's research I found out Macedon was allied to the Persians, so I'll have to tweak those units over and create a new Greek cavalry, and the Map has moved so Syracuse isn't in any more, so those units are now Ionian.
The only reason I suggested it is it seems like the hammered shield has been used A LOT by other mods - so a clean shield would look new - fresh - besides if shields broke or were damges they sought to get them repaird with vigilance - your shields health was directly related to yours.
No worries, as you can see from the other Greek shield cleaning up the Spartan one is easy to do, though your point of getting them repaired falls considering the 300 all died.![]()
I thought that also, but.Very nice fantasy mod
but Hippeis was cavalry, not infantry. hippe = horse
Hippeus (GR): ‘horseman’ or ‘knight’: (1) cavalryman; (2) elite infantryman; title of picked Spartan hoplite.
Here.
I don't know how accurate that is but it looks pretty convincing to me.![]()
Updated Greeks with ''Thespian'' units.
sounds a cliche but never done before so good luck
nice idea

no problem ~ i want to play this mod! i know i have done a sparta mod but thats for demolishing romans, so i’ll look forwards to getting at the persians.

Edit;
Swapped Syracuse units for Ionian, and redone Greek Cavalry.
I know - and I know you were horsing around.
But in all seriousness I think its interesting how little thought goes into the fact that smiths and armorers go along to war with armies - even the 300 and the other faithful were getting their shields, spears and helmets repaired at night for the next days battle. They were there for three days and inflicted the most damage on the third they couldnt have been doing it with broken @$#%. They werent like new but they were better than fully damaged. Its a passing thought many times in studying battles and campaigns of ancient history and a game like this where you dont have to manage the supplie train (thank God!).
Plus it just looks better.
oooooo - And that is a nice shield!
And your right to call them Hippeis for the Spartans. They called them this even though they werent mounted.

NICE! Glad to see you moved away from the black which seems to be a trend for people to skin for those guys.
