    Default RTR VII Decision

I think I've lost some respect for RTR.

No, not because it's taking them forever to put out RTR7, but because I believe they're selling out to the man. I mean, only hosting TIC on Fileplanet, where you have to register in order to download things. How did FP come to have this exclusivity?

I just thought it was interesting.

I can't really get excited about TIC, it's just a little snip of a rather cramped map... I much prefer the big scale that Iberia: Total War brings to that region.

    Yeah.

They could have blown it up. But then again I haven't DL'd it, and to be honest, I don't intend to.

I think our Iberians and Carthaginians are quite enough and could frankly, kick the TIC one's collective asses.

But that's just my faith in tone speaking.

RTR has a lot of wonderful features, but their map just leaves me underwhelmed. I prefer playing RS1.5 to RTR, and we know how much better RS2.0 will be. When we have the 'colonization' system implemented, we'll have the most important improvement that RTR brings to the game. And like you say, tone's units are just the best out there, and our new map will likewise be the best in any mod. Frankly it's hard to get excited about anything else when you see what RS2.0 is shaping up to be...

I absolutely believe that RS 2.0 will be the sleeper hit.
I mean... Pontos, Seleukeides, Armenians (Hayasdan), Arverni... and some stuff on the Balkan peninsula that will make people go

Yeah...it's too bad I can't bring myself to click on the RTR-PE or EB1.0 icons on my desktop anymore

All there is are RS1.5 and RS2.0(BETA)

If you have any doubt that people are beginning to raise eyebrows and take RS2 seriously, look at this comment from LT1956 in his own forum:

"RS on the other hand is still in development which means ALOT can be added to it. Right now I think RS is a little far away from SPQR, but I really look to the future to see RS2 have alot of the features that Made SPQR great plus many unique ones on their own. After all Alot of SPQR players wanted variety and I think RS2 will give them that DIFFERENT feel from SPQR while still having the same things that Draw people to SPQR.

Time will tell, right now I think its too premature to compare RS with SPQR as RS is NOT finished and needs alot more work in some areas, not always visible to Non Modders. I know the Project leader and he's a great guy, One thing is for sure I THINK RS2 will blow socks off for Some people.

But SPQR will always be my baby as its modded after my style of play."

From a guy whose been around from day one of RTW, that is really a HUGE compliment. And I really don't care who releases what anymore, because if we pull this all together and release a polished mod that looks like a damn work of art and plays like SPQR whether you play one or zero turn...whoaa!!
What is going to compete with it anymore?

    Answer: RS3.

Yeh, I love RS as much as the next team member, but being a BETA tester for RTR, you sure do appreciate the work they have done. I seriously urge everyone to download TIC, even though its a mini mod, the depth is on a scale such that when the full mod is complete...peoples heads will explode. EB on the other hand is practically a complete mod already, bar other tweaks and additions no doubt. I love EB personally, im in the midst of a Makedonia campaign, and it is easily the best modification currently out there.
Some people obviously like RS more (I like it just as much, maybe more so than EB and RTR), but liking it more doesnt mean its better. I am a fan of classic cars myself, 67 Mustang Fastback being my favourite, but does that mean its better than a Ferrari etc? no it doesnt. I guess what im trying to say is...people need to stop bashing other mods. Period. We all have a sense of pride in RS, but that doesnt mean we need to act arrogant in attitude to other mods. It happens all the time here, everyone here drops comments and makes retorts about EB and RTR all the time. This thread is proof to that fact. Just take a look at the modifications, spend a few hours going through the files and you will see the work and effort put in them. I seriously think the effort put into just TIC is equal, if not surpassing all the work done for RS1. So how about we all respect these other mods more, its not a competition at all.

I must agree with pseudocaesar. No one will deny that RS 2 will most likely be the top mod when it comes out, but that does not give us the right to start looking down on other mods. I personally think it is ridiculous that they have "given release exclusivity"

, but that is not our call to make, and it makes no difference to me, because they will lose hundreds of downloads probably because people don't want to join. I bet you, with the size RTR and EB have gotten, their arrogance has grown accordingly, and there will be people who think their mods are god and look down on others. We can't let RS2 go to our heads, because that will be another area where we are the best.

To my mind the only competition is with perfection.
What we can do, where we can focus on that others can't or won't. Every mod will be a bit different, but all will be great.

That being said, I think that people will be hard pressed to find a better looking ancient mod.

That's just not true. Some of them suck. I know, I've played them. I'll refrain from naming names, but you really have to wonder at the choices some teams make.

I agree that bashing other mods isn't a good idea. We have too close ties with RTR and others for that, and I have friends who are involved in others.

However, I can tell you right now that there are comments in this thread that have angered me more than anything that has ever been said in this DEV forum. The person who made those comments might want to contemplate that the test on the year change in RS1.5 was not only for this team, but to confirm mutual discussions and brainstorming between myself and RTR.

To be honest, I think our collective attitude at RS has been very good. Now to remain humble.
