    Default More space savers!!!

So I was thinking, why do Chivalric Knights have swords?

I mean, by the time most people get them plate and Brigadine armor had began to supplement mail making conventional slashing swords fairly useless against them, therefor the Shorter stouter or longer thinner thrusting swords were developed to pierce the better armor but they were also replaced mostly by maces/axes or two handed weapons.

Anyway to make a long story short Knights in the "Chivalric" era fought with maces or pole axes or two handed swords when fighting on foot,
So I thought, why are Chivalric Knights armed with swords?

    Then it hit me.

So, if you take all of the games dismounted Chivalric Knights by all of their names,
    Chivalric Knights,
    Eastern dismounted Chivalric Knights
    Noble swordsmen(Scotland's)
    Armored swordsmen(England)
What ever the Irish armored swordsman with half the troops but 2 HP is called

Rename them all to simply Noble swordsmen( this is to imply that they are of a gentry class only armed with the more modern swords and they prefer to fight on foot, it would include Knights and men-at-arms) and merge them all into one unit, each using it own factions skins and even the old UI cards(you can use all the skins thats already in the game, this would be fairly easy to do and I would do so myself if I had milkshape).

I under stand that some of them are named differently becuase they used to be unique units, but the fact of the matter is they all have the exact same stats (except for Ireland's, they have the same except that their unit has two HP and half the men which is debatable anyway) so they are not all that unique at all.

This will free up four unit slots.

The take Frances Dismounted noble Knights, England's Dismounted Knights, and Portugal's dismounted knights who are all armed with pole axes, merge them into one unit and then simply call those Chivalric or Noble or something that fits Knights.

This will free up two unit slots for a total of 6 unit slots, combined with my idea of merging the Artillery and the stupid units that are separated by culture even though they are the same DAMN unit such as town and spear militia and archer militia this will free up a lot of unit slots.

Combined with KK's idea about replacing the "Scottish pikemen Mercs" with simple Scottish pikemen and other such things to other units this will free up some more unit slots.

Also I could not help but notice that England has an militia archer unit all to themselves, could you add this unit to the other ones? this will free up a slot.

    Also, one last thing.

I am by no means demanding this, I am simply finding ways to free up some of the unit slots, becuase I have not done the math but this might possibly free up Possibly some 30 or 40 unit slots...

I think this is a great idea. You're right about all the knights being the same units.

yes it would make more unit spaces but dont u think it would make factions a bit less entertaining with less differences between them?

Bacon, You do realize with the exception of the Irish foot-Knights the only difference between the units that I have posted is the name right?

They all have the exact same attack defense moral and even upgrade patterns.

Besides wouldn't 30 new units make them more entertaining?

Something I thought of along similar lines of thought. I may have a faulty understanding, but couldn't you have totally seperate units in the early campaign form the units in the late era campaign? I mean, think how much more variety there could be between factions if this is possible.

I think one of the problems is that medieval covers to big of a time sopand, from 1100's to 1500's is to much, armor went from being leather for the common man and mail for the rich to Gothic/Milaness for the rich and high quailty steel brigadine ir plate for the common man, and weapons went from spears and bows to arbalests and muskets and pike and halberds...

    Just to much.

I wasn't thinking of a "reform" event. What I'm thinking of is seperating the campaigns like they are seperated in vanilla kingdoms and then giving each campaign a full 400 units. You could have a ton of unique faction specific units in each campaign this way cuz you wouldn't have to give say France early era knights and late era knights.

I am against, as most of these units do look differently, and it will be historically unaccurate to feature them the same-looking.

They would still look different, they will use their old skins.

For an example, English noble swords men will still have the cooler helmets, while French noble swordsmen would have the helmets like pig face basonet.

It would be in the skins.

They are, but with milkshape we could add them into the same model.

Have you ever wondered why light swordsmen for Spain were armored in chain mail and leather but light swordsmen for Scotland were armored in scale armor?

Well, if only the name will be affected in the end, then - do it, only for the same stats units, of course! I was scared because I liked to kill those French ugly chivalric knights with my English ones, which are so beautiful! =)

I think both campaigns should keep the same units.

With the extra unit slots more lategame units could be added for each faction.

I would personly suggest some unique combinations of helmets, outfits, weapons and creative skinning to make some truly unique units.

With the unit slots being made free with merging these knight units, perhaps each catholic faction could get a truly unique knight unit, both in appearance and status?

The HRE already has their Gothic knights, the Sicilians their Norman Knights, I think it would be great if all catholic factions had such a unique knight unit.

This might also make room for another generic dismounted knight which seems to be missing sort of: the dismounted mailed knight.

This sounds a lot like the thread that I made. Though it was aimed mostly at the units that no one uses.

this will simply change units that are all the same nit anyway with differant names into just one unit.

Does anyone here know how much Milkshape costs?
