Strongest Faction

In your opinion what is the strongest faction in SS 5.1
I chose Byzantium because they have an all around powerful late period roster and Greek lands are rich.

well im sure this is what most people would say but theres alot to be taken into consideration such as unit selection, starting position, religion etc that can make them either stronger or weaker, and at what point in the game, i.e who starts of the strongest who ends up the strongest at a certain point etc?

England. Not sure about the AI expansion of them, but I feel they have the best selection of units; strong infantry and even stronger archers which suits my playing style perfectly.

In terms of Pure military might I would have to say the Teutonic Knights or HRE.

In terms of Economy I would have to say Egpyt or Byzantium with the Italian states in third.


In terms of starting Position I would have to say Novengrod or Kiev(no close enemies at the start).

All three balanced I would have to say England.


But for fun I'm going to vote for the pope, becuase its the only faction that cannot be destroyed.

I chose Venice because they have great all around units. They have excellent militia, elite heavy infantry later in the game, especially their Venetian hammer infantry guys, excellent ships, powerful gunpowder units. I think they are one of the strongest factions.

Hm I wonder why I can't vote... But as far as pure Military strength I would say Teutonics. As far as starting position I'm quite a fan of Portugal (Great area to claim muslims to fight at first, decent trade options with Muslims,Spain and France even England. Block aid the land bridge with a good size navy.)

I do however agree that England is probably the best all around Military and starting position. Don't have to worry about those pesky inquisitors coming to your island

Byzantines only get bombard (except in my version, which I edited). So for the standard game by KK I wouldn't pick them.

I really like the Kievan Rus, they have a good roster.

France.Good infantry, good archers (x-bows and bows),great cav,mediocre HA,good shock inf,good artilery .Starting position is good -lots of room for expansion.Borders are defended by castles (to much of them but you can convert).You can have wery poverfull empire even if you take only 12 provinces (France today).So far this is the best faction to test any mod if you are not HA adicted (then use Turkey or Byzant).

militarily-HRE or turks, both are monsters in the late game. Their unit rosters are pound for pound the best.

Economically-Egypt. They have a smooth ride early game with few enemies and cash cow provinces.


Overall-
turks (though it must be said, egypt is one of the only factions that the AI can just dominate with...)

novogrod has a bit better cav but is trumped in every other department

i hav to say novgrod as in the late period campaign they just keep getting bigger and bigger and bigger...sending more and more and more armies...they fill the northern area of the map

i wouldnt say thier roster is that strong as the dvor and tsars guard, despite the stats, are a let down plus the cossack gunners of kiev outstrip them...never seen england or truks become truely powerful....

for the player id say ireland...just a walk through campaign for beginners...i think thier roster strength is ridiculous and im irish!

I voted for France but I don't live in France.
Now England is on the 1st place but France have so much better units even in ranged area.

My fav in my early games have been Turks. But but but, I have voted Lithuania after playing my last early campain with Norwegians. They owned I think 1 provinces in Baltic I think. Crusade was launched at them, HRE, Poland, Hungary, Venice, French, English and Spanish answered. Sending wave after wave on them, not only was crusade failure, but Lithuanians CRUSHED THEM. At that point they had only Vilenius maybe and 2 stack of units, fighting, killing going back to Castle replenishing and fighting..it was such fun watching. T

lithuania is easily the best early game faction.

Aragon for the following reasons.
1. Almughavars sp? (Spear chuckers ftw)
2. Good knights
3. Good cavalry
4. Good Pavise Xbowmen
5. Excellent Milita
6. Rich provinces (with rich provinces next door in all directions to expand)
7. Easy to fight a 1 front war (Take the Iberian and block the land bridge with ships to north africe) (Or take Toulouse and Pamplona and have 2 wonderfully upgraded castles to secure your French border)

Byzantium seems to be the strongest because all weaknesses where removed from them with stainless steel.

Thats actually one decision I dont agree about with king kong, its his choice of course, I am just expressing my opinion. They lacked gunpowder infantry and pikes and they got those, they arent overpowered but good enough to remove any weakness in their roster.

I do hope that all factions will get aditional units to their rosters instead of big factions like byzantium and the HRE just getting more thrown in on the already huge pile, making them even stronger than they already are.

Diversity is a strenght too after all.

The Byzantine Empire is very strong all around, but in the early-middle game they are very weak against horses. Till they get their pikes, they almost absolutely lack good tough spearmen. Which is a good choice I think...

i have to say egypt...
their starting provinces are very rich, and can expand into even more rich provinces...
their roster is not the best, they are lacking a good HA unit...and they seem to have an advantage over the AI when auto-resolving battles...
