heaven was a place on earth
i know we have had many similar threads, but it is all starting to add up in my mind now...
heres a quote concerning the irish tradition of avalon and the land of eternal youth, for shortness we join the post after the writer has explained that originally avalon was the land beyond the horizon, then it became the land beneath the sea, this is why clets believed in the heaven below and gave treasures to the rivers and lakes.
if we consider the celtic origins of britain and ireland as iberian, then as time went by the ‘summer-lands’ ‘sunk’ beneath the sea in the cultural consciousness. where once it was a near memory of sunny days in the homelands [portugal and the bask country], it become fabled and turned to an elysium style myth.. Like the lost continent of Atlantis, it seems to have sunk beneath the ocean, as it later came to be called Tir fo Thonn, the “Land Beneath the Waves,” and was ruled over by the ancient Celtic sea-god, Manannan mac Lir, long after the other gods of the Tuatha DéDannan had forsaken it in favour of Ireland. As Tir Tairngire, the “Land of Promise,” it remained as a hoped-for destination that awaited those fortunate enough to visit its shores by leaving the mortal world behind.
a short while ago we saw how eden - the vision of heaven, was actually a real place in the euphrates valley. i would think then that our visions of heaven originated as places on earth.
so there is no heaven except the one's we had and that we can build? apart from nirvana of course.
