    I installed Rome Total War. Patched up to v1.5. I used patches v1.3 and v1-5. When I tried to install Barbarian Invasion in the middle of installation there is error.
    ///////////////////////////////////////
    //Component transfer error///
    //Component RTW 1_4//
    //File Group: Data//
    File: D:\data2.cab//
    //Error Data error (cyclic redundancy check)//
    //////////////////////////////////////////////////////
    After I click "OK", I am taken to option to uninatall Rome total War. After choosing "OK", program unintalled Rome Total War and did not finished intalling Barbarian Invasion. My Barbarioan Invasion Read me manual said that Barbarian invasion patches up Rome Total War up to V1.3. I tried installing BI without patching up RTW (v1.000). Tried to install BI with RTW patched up to v1.3. After each failure i uninstall and deleted activision folder. After each installation I checked option for correct version and ran RTW. Needless to say I waisted a half of day and still cannot find the reason of my issue. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

    Remove all mods.

    Uninstall, do not use control panel/add remove programs, do not use uninstall from the start/xxxx menu.

    Follow the instructions I gave here:
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=139117

    Install RTW.
    Start the game, select options and check ver # upper right.

    Sounds like you have an Activision copy. Patch to 1.3. Check the Ver # and verify 1.3 before inserting BI disk.

    Install BI. Patch to 1.6.

    Any trace of folders on your HD, or registry entries can cause the type of problem you describe. Manually check your HD after doing the uninstall and run a registry check.

    Finally someone answered! Thank you. I did have copies in Activision folder. I
    I did exactly what you said i should not do. I used start menu to uninstall game. Then i used control menu to uninstall everything related to RTW and BI. Then I erase activision folder too. I will try this thing with free software for registry. I have no idea what I am doing so wish me goodluck.

    I explored RTW and BI in DVD ROM and ran SETUP.EXE. I can install them but still have the same problem with BI. How do I check the Registry? Can I have link for safe location of register checker?

    An overview of Registry Checkers and some recommendations are here;
    http://www.registrycleanercompared.c...FRuhFQodBTLrXA

    I use Max Registry Cleaner, but none of these are free; although all will do a free scan you just can't fix problems for free.

    The trial version located here might allow you to check for problems with rome:

    If you removed RTW and BI via the SETUP.EXE and deleted HD folders, you are probably ok to procede with a new install.

    I found BI in change/erase programs. Sega and Activision files are empty. Should I uninstall from change/erase BI? Anyways I tried but there was some error. There is huge allocation of memory on change/erase for BI. I have two HD. Second HD has BI installed. Could be that a problem?

    I erased activision file on second HD. In change /remove program BI is still there. When I try to erase some error pops up.

    It does sound like a registry problem, perhaps asking here will get someone with better qualifactions that can help.

    this is where the geeks live.

    You could google for guides to edit the registry.

    Any good guide will insist you back up your current registry before making any change.

    You should verify what I am about to tell you before proceding.

    Close all open windows.

    Under START select RUN

    Type in: regedit

    Select FILE EXPORT

    Put your copy somewhere safe such as My Documents, give it an easy name such as "REGBAC_01_05_08.reg"

    Select HKEY_CURRENT_USER

    Select SOFTWARE

    Search for "Activision" and "The Creative Assembly"

    Verify that only ROME and BI sub_keys are there then delete "Activision" and "The Creative Assembly" keys.

    Close up HKEY_CURRENT_USER and open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

    Select SOFTWARE

    look for Wow6432Node ( if you have a 64 bit system this will be there )
    Search the Wow6432Node for "Activision" and "The Creative Assembly" delete them.

    Close up HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and exit registry editor. Restart your computer.

    If all has gone well you should be able to reinstall RTW and BI. I do not believe there would be much problem if they were installed somewhere other than "C", but I would put them together.

    If something has gone wrong (accidently deleting something or similar) Restart you computer ( in safe mode if need be ) do
    START\RUN\regedit and select FILE IMPORT under file and put the old registry back in.

    This will not affect M2TW as those keys are listed under SEGA.

    Procede at your own risk. Verify what I said.

    I disconnected my Raptor 10,000 RPM and started working with my second harddrive. This HD has RTR GOLD installed via BI. I was able to uninstall BI and RTW. I checked add/remove and they were uninstalled. I deleted manually all the mods saved in different files such as Activisdion(2), Activisdion(3). Then i went manually to my registry and deleted The Creative Assembly hot key. Inside there was BI and RTW. I deleted The Creative Assembly hot in two places. I followed the instructions from allypup. I cheked under software and there is no references about BI and RTW. Excited that problem is solved, I installed RTW , patched up and when i tried to install BI, I ran into the same problem as before. There is error with file RTW 1.4. My BI right from the cd updates RTW TO v1.3 and BI installes as v1.4. HD was clear of both games, registry was clear, add/remove was clear and I still have issues with installation of BI. The good part is I can revert back via system restore. It will restore BI installation to v1.4 and RTW to v1.3 with RTR of some old version. When I do that and try to repair BI with my CD, I ran into the same problem as with installation.

    Check your disc for scratches, dirt, and other assorted foreign material.

    Can your drive install other programs?
