I haven't bought kingdoms yet, (will once stores open), but once I do, I'm downloading this mod.
I love infantry, I can't stand cavalry, and don't care much for archers. So I'm wondering which faction would be the best for me in this mod?

You mean simply heavy infantry or spearmen also count?
P.S. This thing can help you decide: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=136046
Danish. The Danes are by far the best faction for infantry ever. In fact, they do pretty well in all areas, maybe not cavalry, as their Norse Clerics kinda suck. But yes, the Danes. They iz well gud.
*Pained noise* Their charge is abysmal and their maces do little good against either enemy cavalry or heavy infantry. They can just about handle skirmishers and light infantry without routing in terror at the sight of a sharpened stick.
I suppose they do better than cavalry intended for charging, but yes, main point, choose Denmark. You also get Vikings. Game, Set, Match, Tournament. And clerics own in combat, but suck in charges
Norway. You get the viking infantry, and denmark to cover your south(instant ally if you want it). Axe for axe norway slaughters early scottland and ireland, highlanders cant stand to viking raiders, huscarls slaughter everything ect.
Norse archers in the front, 3-4 deep w/ stakes skirmish off. Heavy inf behind them, with spears on the flanks in schiltrom if cav present. Norse archers can hold their own against anything on foot early on, just not forever. The archers absorb the intial charge very well when in thick formations.
When the fight starts to go against the archers turn skirmish on and order them to run behind your infantry. Send the axemen in, or make a flank attack if the archers are holding well(which they may just do against highland rabble/highlanders).
Dismounted gothics cut through infantry like it was cheese. They are 9/19... Is there anything biting stronger than they do it?
When they hit enemy line it's like it was hit by a train.
HRE also has all the standard european units and imperial 4/20 (AP) knights. They have Teutonic Order, they have decent pikes.
What else do you need?
*Screams a Danish warcry and bangs his axe hilt on his shield*
Now, if that didn't tempt you, I just don't know what will.
And remember....the Germans started WW1 and WW2
I jest, it was the Serbians the first time.![]()
He can't stand that european cavalry for charges... But yes, HRE's infantry is uber.
Who else is, as I might try an infantry centered game too? And what archers are best, except longbows and pavise x-bows? And what faction does combine very powerful infantry and good archers/crossbowmen?
Said like a true Norseman.Norway. You get the viking infantry, and denmark to cover your south(instant ally if you want it). Axe for axe norway slaughters early scottland and ireland, highlanders cant stand to viking raiders, huscarls slaughter everything ect.

England's always good because the developers overpowered it far too much; they focused so much on giving it an amazing selection of troops some factions seem rushed. The Seljuk Turks are always a decent bet in any fight, they're balanced and strong, and the Moors give me no end of trouble as Aragon. I like Spanish late infantry as well myself, but the early troops are uncertain and get crushed usually by the French. Do NOT pick Hungary, they have the worst infantry around, but their cavalry is mint.Who else is, as I might try an infantry centered game too? Irish descent actually, but with blond hair and blue eyes, I'm guessing my great great something or other was an 'ostman' =P
@ echad: Norse archers dont have the range or late game power of Xbows, but are armorable in chain, and are the equal of most light swordsmen in the game. And they are far more acurate than say peseant archers. Norway also gets regular xbows.
Look at the Turks or Byzantines. The Turks and their Dismounted Hasham are very impressive troops, able to beat most other European sword and shield infantry except Dismounted Imperials (and then, they win sometimes). Their Ottoman Infantry are well armored archers, and I'm sure we don't have to explain what's so great about the Janissaries.
The Byzantines with their Pronoia Infantry, Byzantine Infantry, Guard Pikemen, Guard Archers, Varangians, Alamanoi, and Dismounted Latinkon are probably stronger than the Danes.
Norway?
I take it that's for the kingdoms version of SS (lol SS as in german nazi guys). As a Norwegian, it's my responsibility to lead them to greatness. I'll go Denmark untill I can get Kingdoms (sold out), then I'll go Norway.
Thanks for the quick responses.
No problem mate, have fun smashing them pesky HRE good-fo'-nuthin's to the south
Half Danish heritage, half McDonald Clan, so I'm just a warped breed from two stereotypically angry and violent nations.Irish descent actually, but with blond hair and blue eyes, I'm guessing my great great something or other was an 'ostman' =P
I think Venice is also a pretty good infantry faction. They have the dismounted knights/broken lances/men at arms, venetian heavy infantry, good italian militia, armored sergeants, pike & halberd militia, and venetian archers!
Also, the Papal States are good too because they have most of that, plus papal guard and swiss guard.
What about Lithuania. All those elite spears and axes from first level temples? They only lack good 7/21 swords but they have the strongest early roster (they can have 7/12 crossbow, better than everybody else in game except french on citadel level from first temple they build in their wooden castle, they have great ducal spears from first temple in cities!) and this somehow makes up for that, doesn't it?
I would say its Scotland.
Pikeman is so imbalance in this mod.
I have tested (both side exp 0, no armour/weapon upgrade) noble pikeman against all other factions' most expensive infantries in 1v1,
and none can beat it.
Not to mention pikeman owns cavalry, which other infantries just can't.
There is also one big advantage of pikeman. If you level up a noble pikeman to experience 7, its damage boosted from 3 to
6. That is 100% more damage, while other expensive infantries only gain 30% boost max.
