I keep getting this trait on almost every one of my generals! It doesn't make sense - I don't see why they are all getting it. Does anyone have some advice on how to make this quite annoying trait not so common?

Baldwin IV
There was a persistent legend of a Papess named Joan, a woman who dressed as a man and ultimately took the throne of St Peter, but it is considered by modern scholars to be just that, a legend. So it certainly isn't out of place. One version of the legend even has the Papess reigning in the late 11th century, certainly within the timeframe of M2TW.
Well, and TW series arent really historically accurate.. Small nations taking over the world :p
But back on the topic, i think silly beliefs and pagan magician is result of having your governor in an area with alot of religion that isnt your main religion, and possibly heretics roaming around.
I have loads of pagan magician retinues.
Baird: "Hey! Stop shooting it, you're pissing it off!"
Cole: "You're telling me what not to shoot in here? Look at this ****!"

Carmine: "Landown? I heard there's a ****load of grubs down there..."
Marcus: "More like 10 ****loads"

Dom: "Marcus, ya ever seen them feed on imulsion?"
Marcus: "Hmph, they can eat **** and die for all I care..."
I have a lot of mediocre generals but very few generals that have really crappy traits...If I notice a line of my family starting to have trends of bad traits, especially those that really make them suck then I will send all of the males out on suicide missions to weaken my enemies before my main army arrives and cut that line of the family off before they can grow too much...One thing I noticed is the game seems to aim at your good generals when your lands catch the plague...I never lose a crappy general it always takes my best generals.....
we read about this in class, didtn't the pope got pregnant? well, a very good legend. cause after the "legend" the pope had to sit on a chair with a hole in the center and then the cardinals had to go check under it to see if he had balls :pThere was a persistent legend of a Papess named Joan, a woman who dressed as a man and ultimately took the throne of St Peter, but it is considered by modern scholars to be just that, a legend. Gamers don't die, they go to the next level!
bad traits get handed out like halloween candy by the game.
I try to counter that by cheating with my very first issued family members. I give them all smart, pragmatic, sane and sober type traits. Then let the program flow to the low as each succeeding generation comes out stupider, lamer, insaner and the occasional flamer.
I figure the founders of a dynasty should be at least a little brighter than your average box of rocks.
based on my own experiences, it seems that traits could be genetic.
Starting characters have no character from which they can get traits, with the exception of children that haven't come of age yet.
I believe you can get the superstitious trait (silly beliefs is the first level in it) randomly for characters that come of age and when a character is affected by a disaster (I think the plague also counts as a disaster, which could explain why it pops up so often). It also gets passed onto offspring.
a whole line of characters from the same family had the "dubious" trait. it seems like only negative traits are passed on >![]()
give em their own priests, send em on crusades
As pontifexmaximus101 says, I give them their own Priests and send them on Crusades. I also gained the Holy Prepuce relic after taking Hamburg, which I pass down the family line from father to son. This increases Piety. The other thing I do is make sure my family members are present when I build any church, abbey or cathedral. This usually gives them the Religious trait.
