    Hey guys, could you list me some good medieval films? even if its really old. today i recieved flesh + blood which follows mercenaries in 1500's, nice swords and armour

    Braveheart as a classic.

    King Arthur as Dark Age smashing.

    Kingdom of Heaven is another good one.

    I think there are a few good movies on Charlemagne and Genghis Khan.

    The only film I can honestly say is propely good is Beckett

    Its portrayal of both Henry II and Becket is relatively incorrect as far as we know the persons from contemporary historical sources. Although O'Toole puts on a terrific display of acting, the portrayal of Henry in particular shows little resemblance to what we know of this ruler. The dress, scenery, props etc isn't near 100 percent correct as well.

    However, the film does display the real political plot and portrays this very well. The conflict essential to the plot, the struggle between royal and church power is clearly shown, even though the film emphasizes the conflict between the two lead characters and personalities Becket (Burton) and Henry II (O'Toole). It isn't anywhere near 100 percent historically correct, but is nevertheless among many medieval historians considered the best medieval film. I watched the film together with among others 3 professional medieval historians, one an expert on the Becket affair, another a world famous medieval historian (in medieval historian circles). I have heard positive things about The Lion in Winter aswell, but I haven't seen it.

    - 1492: Conquest of Paradise | This is a good movie about Cristofor Columb.
    - Becket
    - The Lion in Winter
    - A Man for All Seasons
    - The Mission
    - Mohammad, Messenger of God
    - And many others that i can`t remember.

    - the Virgin Spring (another excellent Bergman movie)
    - The Name of the Rose (starring Sean Connery)(this is a mystery movie)
    - Alexander Nevsky (classic movie where the Teutonic Knights get owned)

    - First Knight
    - Excalibur (has lots of fantasy elements)
    - Tristan & Isolde
    - The Messenger (the one about Joan of Arc)
    - Joan of Arc (starring Leelee Sobieski)

    EDIT:
    - "1492" is a really sweet movie, but it didn't do so well with the general audience. But I loved it

    a very quiet movie actually, its the first part of a trilogy treating Ghengis Khans life. Dont expect Hollywood jokes and bang bang

    If you're in the US, then you're in luck. Charlton Heston is coming to DVD as "El Cid" (in another Medieval-setting)!

    The Internet Medieval Sourcebook has an interesting list of historical movies, with comments from the standpoint of historical accuracy.

    For me, as Prince_of_Macedon mentioned above, the wonderful Alexander Nevsky is one of the great films of all time, not just great historical films. The score by Prokofiev, reconstructed from the cantata and included in the video release. The incredible battle scene on the frozen Lake Peipus.

    Take the propaganda with a huge grain of salt (it is, after all, a Soviet-era movie), and just enjoy the amazing production.

    Braveheart - an excellent medieval fantasy film, up there with such classics as LOTR. As many have already mentioned though, Alexander Nevsky is worth checking out if you can find it.
