Thread: Rome Mod Questions & Recommendations

XGM (Extended Greek Mod) increases the upkeep costs for armies dramatically, so it kinda works anti-stack.
Yet the AI gets scripted stacks when you siege certain cities to represent how important those cities are placed strategically for each faction on the campaign map.
    In short:
In XGM you won't have fully stacked armies, the AI will.

You may want to be a little more specific as most big mods satisfy all your requirements...

    Map mod for R:TW
All I want the mod to do is change the map to a bigger one(no new units or faction, just regions and cities)

Mundus Magnus expands the map to 200 settlements, the maximum possible.

    Factions are 20, that's hardcoded.

Let's try to narrow the target...
    Do you want historical accuracy?
Do you want big battles or challenging economy?
Do you prefer fancy graphics or deep gaming mechanics?

Extended Cultures has what you seek.

    - Challenging Economy
    - Government and colonization mechanics
    - 20 factions and 200 settlements
    - Best used with BI for full potential

XC and RS II have what you want. XC is more trait based while the building effects in RS II are the main drivers of the economy. Pretty much all mods max out every resource that can be used.

Hi I'm looking for a mod that improves just the aesthetics of the game. Particularly the terrain, because it's plain and ugly in base game.

So does anyone know of a terrain or visual overhaul mod for battles? Thanks!

ps. Also, is there a mod that makes an Arab faction playable?

XGM, XC and EB have a Sabean faction playable in Arabia, however all those mods make serious gameplay changes.
I sorted them by closeness to vanilla, have fun

hey Zarax, what's the difference between XGM and XC? are they major?

can I install both/ all 3 mods and try them out at the same time or will it cause the game to crash if I install more than one mod?

XC looks like XGM but mechanics and faction management are very different, both in strategic and tactical map.
XGM is closer to vanilla, XC gives a lot more depth, while EB is best known for attention to historical accuracy.

I'm pretty sure XGM and XC can both be installed together and play nicely, EB might not be as mod-folder friendly, though not really sure.

Any mods recommendations for a total newbie or should I start with vanilla? Without mods is it better to play classic RTW for a first time or install expansion e.g. Barbarian Invasion?

Vanilla RTW, Followed by BI are necessary to get the basics, most mods are harder than either game.

They can and they do. Though I find XC a bit more of a head *expletive*. Lol. Both good mods though. Kudos to the developers.

XC is not recommended for beginners, it's final aim is to make players appreciate the true complexity of kingdom management.
It's more aimed at paradox game lovers than vanilla players and requires a good deal of planning to succeed.
