For what you like, I'd suggest EB.
Is it really an ideal solution to put all mod-recommendation-related questions into one thread? Various people answering many poeples' questions etc. Would the forum support spider-like discussion, it would be different

I do not recommend Roma Surrectum unless you make it so it's 1 turn recruiting (which I haven't tried, I've only done 0 turn.) There are a TON of battles in Roma Surrectum with 0 turn recruiting, not sure about 1 turn though.

Also do not recommend SPQR for you. I mean, RS and SPQR are my two favorite mods, but they probably aren't what you're looking for.
    Great answer, thanks!

The mods with the green folders have the entire mod contained in the aforementioned folder, and it doesn't overwrite any of the original files. It's from TWC WIKI a great resource for Total War Fans.

BTW I personally like RTR Platinum, it plays as smooth as Vanilla yet the game is enhanced tremendously as only RTR can do, and if your looking for a shorter yet equally fantastic mod click my sig and get RTRs latest offering.
    That's THE link!

Well, this question is suppoed to be less demanding, I only know about the main mods for BI, which may not be mentioned (or not often) on this forum.
Well, it seems the atmospehere on this forum is rather different than what I'm used to on forum.paradoxplaza.com, people there have more patience answering "the same questions" again, because they know, that new players come and go...

Try IBFD of course! I think its the best mod for bi. There is also a mod based on IBFD called Imperium Iulianorum and Rio's IBFD. Try them, you wont regrett it. There is also Chivalry: Total War, a medieval times mod. I didnt play it yet, so i cant tell much about it.

I'm already downloading INVASIO BARBARORVM, but it will take some time, all these files, download limit on megaupload. But it seems it is the only mod which leave BI in its timeframe anyway, so no competition there (or only little ).
So far the mod seems promising

With 1 turn recruitment its nearly the same as with 0 turn. Stack after stack, but not the excessive brood force of 0 turn recruitment.

Try IJ! IBFD already has great unit skins, but IJ is just amazing. You get the chance to play as 1 huge roman empire, and the problems are simply everywhere. Great experience! For IJ you dont need IBFD anymore. But when instal it, you better copy your RTW folder to still have a clean RTW for the future.

If you make a separate RTW, yes. Otherwise, I'm not sure.

The one I got is supposed to be a "mod switch" version. Does that make it any different?

Yes if it is a mod-switch then it will alow you to play vannila and itself.
"So there I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopowner and his son... that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really. But, sure enough, I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show."

Arthurian TW is very good too. I've had some spectacular battles and its challenging!

I've not tried IJ as I haven't been able to get it to work. I want to though...

Has anyone tried the Justinian campaign for Rio's IBFD? I want to see if that's good.

Good idea, but maybe the poll should be extended. And I included only RTW mods in it (not BI).

Having a difficult economics is both realistic and accurate. You can't just mass create units - calculations of income, upkeep, and diplomacy situation etc, should always be the key to win the game. Or you could be a brilliant general yourself and beat everyone with a single army like alexander did

BTW TE has very realistic-looking units and the game play remains more or less the same as vanilla RTW.

RTR platinum edition (RTRPE) .. As mentioned above it makes a huge difference, basically when the mod is installed it stands in it's own folder so you can play the vanilla game if you want to (once you've played RTR you won't touch vanilla again) .. It also gives you the advantage of being able to install any other -mod foldered mod on the same RTW install.

    I currently have
    RTRPE.
    EODI.
    EODII.
77BC. (great version of RTR with lots of scripting)
    Gods and Fighting Men.
    LOTR
    FATW.

    All on one install.

Check this table on the Wiki for other -mod folder mods..

    Default Reinstalling RTW

    Ave!

I'm thinking of giving RTW another shot, installed RTW and BI, I don't have Alexander. I'm interested in mods as well as the vanilla version can get dull.

So if you guys/gals use certain mods please recommend a few.

    Thanks

No one has mentioned Roma Surrectum (RS) yet. It's a pretty good mod, the only downsides are that if you choose 0 turn recruitment, you have to fight heaps of battles per turn. The AI is somewhat tougher, and auto-resolving works, but it's very harsh on your troops so it makes you fight the battles which is a lot funner. They have good skins, and have some interesting features that can reduce squalor and population without cheats. There are quite a number of new factions, and some are renamed. It's pretty good.

I don't know how many times this thread has come up. Look in the "Mod Recommendations" Sticky thread a few threads up. Or there's a post for "RTW-Favourite mods" a few threads down.
