Which one is better?

Well, I want to remake Milan into Genoa, already changed the name and now am working on the Coat of Arms. Which vesion is better?



Anyone knows what should I change to make Genoa the default capital, not Milan? And if anyone can be of any help with reskinning shields/banners and units?

Without any real evidence to prove me right or wrong, I would say that the reference you have used is from the late 16th or 17th century. Although it looks good, I think it would fit better in E:TW.

You know, I coudn't find anything else on Genoa, except St. George's cross, which is not only unoriginal, but also is a flag and not a Coat of Arms.

Actually, I like the silver background much more than the reddish one, regardless of which high-low pair I'm looking at, so between the two center ones, it has to be the one on top. It just looks more dignified, methinks. Of course, I voted for top left. I've always preferred silver to gold.

I also like upper-right... And it has red-white background, which corresponds to their flag.

I guessed from the beginning, that the majority ov votes will go for the dull grey ones... I'll need to insert these in a lot of files, so will wait until the new year with finishing... Prob'ly might add some more previews later today.

Well from what I have read the art of heraldry at the timeframe was of very simple design and the rules of heraldry was not either as defined, compared to a few centuries later. Also coat of arms were usaully also the flag and vice versa. The pope also assigned different flags to each country, which were to be used in ofcause mainly crusades. It was considered a great honor so in some cases contries also adobted them and it became the country's main flag.

The flag of genoa is one of the oldest and I think you can easily assume that it was the coat of arms aswell, due that it was a republic who had several noble families ruling it and considering all evidence points that way. And so I think a slightly more simple version portrating the St. George's cross would represent it more accurate.

By the way I voted for the one with silver background.

I'll have to admit it and say that I'm superficial enough that the green throws me off of wanting to play Milan avidly.

Beyond that however, I like the gold in the upper center. My main concern is however, what the tabards/coloration will be for the units. Somehow a bright gold color would just destroy my eyes. Obviously the St. George's flag should give them a white coat with red cross.. but that seems like a Templar Army vs. a Genoa army would get awfully confusing.

Exactly! That is why I am planning to use some gold anyway... Probably not as te main colour, but some decorations (especially since Genoa was very rich) would be good...

But the CoA I will choose here will not influence the unit colours anyway! The CoA itself already got the 3 colours, just need to make sure about the background.

I think this relooking of Milan faction to Genoa is a good idea which opens news opportunities, like crusaders units.
