Default Which R:TW unit would you be?

Which R:TW unit would you most like to be? Consider several things such as job hazards, long term benefits, lifestyle, salary and whatever else would affect your decision.

For salary, I used R:TW's value system. For example, an Armoured Elephant costs 2,970 denarii for a crew of 36 on Large settings (for 1 Multiplayer battle). If you distribute 2,970 denarii among 36 crewmembers, you would come up with 82.50 denarii per crewmen. A Greek Peasant, by contrast, would receive 00.83 denarii for each online battle. The biggest drawback to being an Elephant crewman is that they almost always die in online battles. If the enemy doesn't kill them, their own commander will.

I personally would serve in Macedon's Companion Cavalry force. They've got sweet uniforms, the best horses in Macedonia, and originally, they were composed of nobility. Prestige is another huge factor as Alexander himself usually rode with his Companions into battle.

Also, they make a decent salary of 14.07 denarii per online battle. Oh, and since they're mounted, they can easily retreat from the battlefield if their lives are in danger - so they're pretty safe in the long term. But what am I saying? Companions don't run! They fight till the end!

The biggest benefit to being a Companion cavalier is that the Macedonian babes dig warriors mounted on horses.

A Roman unit, don't really care which, but they have to be Imperial ones. (the post-marian units in RTW vanilla.)

Well, I have to be honest here, and look at my height, build etc. I would be a slinger. I am 6 foot tall and slim. 72kg. I could always throw a long way and accurately.

So a slinger I would be.

A general`s bodyguard or whatever unit that has two or more hit points and is not supposed to be in the main line.

Other; Praetorian Guard. Good wages, odds are you've already been through many battles and seen victory/lived, and for the right price... more than one Emperor died at the hands of their own Guard.

Other; Head Hurler. Just for the interesting conversation in the tavern after a hard day's melting enemies with lime-filled skulls.
Or of course some ancillary character. I'd probably be a 'negative' trait, but from my perspective getting the wealthy guys to throw huge parties at every occasion is not negative!

I voted for Pretorian Guard Cavalrymen, despite the fact they did nto really engaged in battles, but had their own barracks aka Castra Pretoria outside Rome and watched over the city. Safe, near center, with power. Ya that would suit me

I voted Companions, but it was a toss-up between them, Cretans or Scythians.
Asking for rep is a sure fire way to not receive any, at least from this old cynic.

I would choose cataphracts-those armoured guys from hell, from one reason-to find out if the companions were too strong as everyone says!

I agree, but it was between the spartans and the urbans.
The Spartans trained, trained, trained and utterly trained.
While the urbans was just sitting on their asses, patrolling the streets of Rome.

Arcani, hands down the coolest unit. Besides, I'm an outdoors person who loves to play things like manhunt, flashlight tag and such. And I don't get found a lot even though i can hide in the most obvious places. My best was just lying down in the middle of a field and I got hit by the flashlight's beam twice and never got seen. So a sneaky Arcani would be my choice.

I was tempted to say a Spartan hoplite, but Cataphrachts are more mobile and armoured-and arrow to the chest would be a really lousy end for a warrior .

There was a thread like this about a year ago, and I'm pretty sure the winner was a guy who said he would be using a ballista in a tower, as those guys are invincible, you never see them die.
