    Default Towers

    This most likely is a noob question but which is better, balista towers or cannon towers in regards to accuracy and damage? I ask because cannon towers sound like they would inflict more damage but balista towers sound like they would be more accurate.

    I would prefer cannon ones. The ballistas just kill men, but if theres alot of em, the inaccurate cannons area of effect damage can just incinerate alot of them in one shot. And if youre lucky, the cannon may even hit the ram and destroy it! The ballista towers about.. never do that

    In short: Ballistas could be more effective against small forces, but it still misses sometimes. Cannon misses more often but when it hits, the missed shots are worth it.

    Are you kidding? My ballista towers have destroyed countless pieces of siege machinery including rams, towers and even ladders! Ballista towers have pinpoint accuracy, too bad their range is relatively low.

    I have _never_ destroyed siege eq with ballista towers only. They also are not pinpoint accurate, they miss quite often when shooting at troops and rams.

    Ofc you have destroyed siege equipment, especially towers if you had archers supporting the towers.

    Cannons on the other hand, i have won battles with very small chance of winning, because the cannon has destroyed rams slowing them down, and by reducing their ranks and morale.

    Cannon fire damages morale more and has much longer range. It's an improvement over the ballista towers. Just be careful when you chase off routers with cavalry.

    Eh? Maybe you're playing some mod that decreases ballista accuracy, because my ballista towers hardly ever miss. They also deal a good 4-5% damage to rams per arrow, and seemingly have much better chances of setting things on fire (wouldn't know for sure though).

    And no, when I say my ballista towers destroyed stuff, I mean my ballista towers alone, without support of archers.

    With cannons I'm lucky when it hits a siege tower even once (and even then only does 15-20% damage... what's up with that?).

    Cannon towers have to be better, else they wouldn't be a building upgrade to ballista towers.

    I love cannon towers except when the fire into melee battle....killing more of their own than the enemy

    I would prefer cannon towers but i havent got anything bad to say about ballista too.

    Ballista towers cuz they are cheaper and a lot more effective than normal arrow towers. Only use canons on your important towns/castles

    Ballista towers are more accurate, but lack area effect and range.
    Cannon towers are less accurate, but far more powerful and have a greater range.
    I have many times seen Ballista towers (thanks to their increased accuracy) being able to pinpoint rams and towers, thus setting them aflame.
    Cannons, on the other hand, are more likely to destroy equipment without having to incinerate them first, and they also cause more casualties and morale damage.

    Arrows (standard): Armour piercing arrows, Flaming arrows.
    Ballistas: Ballista bolts, Flaming ballista bolts, + accuracy and damage over Arrows.
    Cannons: Cannon balls, Flaming Cannon ammunition, Area effect, Morale decrease, + damage over Ballistas.
    Heart of silver, Mind of gold
    Fist of iron and Tongue to scold

    The few times I have stayed with a game long enough to GET cannon towers, I have been able to thereafter defend any city with only enough of the cheapest milita units to keep the towers manned and firing.
    Ive never had an enemy unit get close enough to put up ladders, much less hit a gate or ready a tower.

    Based on some of the things ive read here today (my first day with an account here) i have begun to wonder... is my version of M2TW messed up and screwing me outta fun and smart enemies?

    Nah, you´re probably just playing with too low difficulty ^::^
    If you want more challenge, increase the difficulty level, or give your enemies a break (so that they have the necessary time to start spamming cannons in their armies)
