    Default A li'l help? =]

Hey, I'm brand new here, but I've been on forums before...so I'd like to apologize if this is a FAQ - But I can't seem to find a thread that would properly cover it.

I downloaded the latest RTW Mod of RTR, and it seemed fine and loading. But just before it began to go into full-screen operation a task manager thingy came up saying "3D audio couldn't be installed", or something along those lines...

Any ideas what I have to do to sort out the problem...and what caused it in the first place =P

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks -=Haste=-

You need to be a bit more specific over what you have installed (RTR 6 Gold, RTR PE) over what version of RTW.

What do you mean by 'before it began to go into full-screen operation'?

The following is the 'launch sequence' for RTR 6 Gold.

The version of RTR I download was 1.9

I have the Gold Edition of RTW.

And I mean, after I double click the shortcut, a small box about an 1/8th of the screen size comes up with "Rome Total War" inside it.

It flashes off and then a minimized RTW application is at the bottom of my desktop...but it won't carry on with loading and entering the launch sequence as I get this "3D audio cannot be installed" notice.

I'll do screenshots if you wish?

    OK
    1) What Audia card do you use (or is it on-board sound)?
    2) Are the latest drivers installed for the card?
    3) Do you have problems launching other games?

    Edited.
As Lestat has posted - make sure you installed RTR PE in the correct folder. Othwerwise, we may be trying to fix a problem that isn't there.

If you have installed to the correct folder the other thing you can do is to run DxDiag from the Run prompt. (START>RUN and then enter DxDiag in the box that comes up - it is a useful diagnostic method of pointing out problems with you hardware/software).

I think you've installed in the wrong folder. Possibly you version installed in SEGA or The Creative Assembly folder while RTR and RTRPE by default installed in Activision folder.

    Ahhh thank you.

    Now.

When I first installed it, it created an Activision folder, which I thought would be fine. But when trying to load it, just refused really. A small MS-DOS box kept flashing for a second and then ceased.

When I installed it the second time, I changed the folder to The Creative Assembly, and obviously that's the problem.

BUT as I state earlier, when I allowed it to create a brand new folder, it wasn't doing anything anyway...

I'm sorry I'm such n00b evidently, iIve never used mods before =[

'Activision' was the original name. With later releases the game can be installed in 'The Creative Assembly'. M2TW gets created in a 'SEGA' folder. RTW has been released in various budget packages that who knows where they will install.

Just keep track of where the game is installed 'as standard'. If you have a shortcut on your desktop that should point to the original game.

You will find that you can specify where to install the mod. This means you can take a copy of the game folder (any number of times) and apply different mods. Also you could keep different versions of RTW (basically just RTW 1.2 and RTW 1.5) as different mods use different versions.

    Enjoy the game.
