    Default Questions and appreciation

I tried SS for the first time yesterday and just wanted to give thanks to Kong and others.

    A few questions:

Are the ai generals restricted by supply traits? And consequently, will the removal of supply traits alter their behavior?

I noticed though factions are neutral at the beginning of the campaign (exception as to Golden Horde), the standings are very historic. Are there plans to add historic alliances, rivalries, and vassalage?

Also noticed late era campaign just imported character names. Just question as above in regard to characters.

Noticed almost all of the screens are from Kingdom of Heaven. What did you think of the movie?

    Again appreciations for this mod.

    Edit: thanks for the replies

    1. No. Supply traits aren't affecting AI. AI is just too dumb for them. So there's no difference for AI if you remove them.

    2. I haven't ever seen any desire to fix starting diplomacy. For me it's fine as it's now. Turks hating Byzantine, Spain hating Moors...

I have nothing to add, epecially that in a few turns you may have any alliances you want... so what's the point in the first place.

    3. There's already a project doing all those historical names stuff. SS has their work included..

    4. The movie is so damn inaccurate that it makes me cry. Also I didn't like the elf surrender the city to Saladin. And writers should have made more of Hattin...

Anyway, if you're bored with those screens, you may install alternative ones, there's a thread with them somewhere down this forums.

I totally agree. Accuracy in a historical epic has been damn ever since Mel Gibson fought Battle of Sterling Bridge without a bridge, in the process making millions of dollars. Orlando Bloom was uninspiring when standing next to Brad Pitt, so putting him in a leading role against Green, Irons, Norton, and Massound didn't make it any better. Also, the theatrical cut seems to have spent a great deal of time showing armies matching, but actual battles were just a dozen frames.

My point of view is Braveheart spawned Troy (hey its secular Greece!), Alexander (after JFK, anyone expected him to be accurate?), Kingdom of Heaven, and lastly 300 (I feel like Battle of Thermopylae has been permanently scarred by this one) Movie-viewers proved to Hollywood that the more deviation from history/source material, adding contemporary, cliche notions of freedom and simple, cheesy one-liners, the more money the movie is going to make.

To be fair those who began watching expecting it to be historically accurate were always going to be disapointed.
I really enjoyed it as a story based very loosely on real events in a period that interests me.

As for the battles, yeah i agree.Gone are the days of big epic set piece style battles (ie)Warterloo etc.

Welcome to Stainless Steel Best mod out there by far for MTW2.

AI characters as far as i know are not affected by the supply trait feature.Personally i dont use it either.

Not sure about things that are to be added but i know that version 6.0 is incoming and with a new faction to boot.

I found Kingdom of heaven a really enjoyable film.I bought the Directors cut a few weeks ago which knocks the viewing time up to 3 hours and the extra content really boosts the film for me.Most of the characters feel a lot more fleshed out. When you watch the directors cut it's amazing how much they butchered the initial release to get it down to 90 mins or so.

Well the siege gets a few extra scenes but in the main its storyline and character enhancement.

In a nutshell it's a different film.Theres more scenes with Balians father and the Crusaders,Much more with Eva Green,Saladin,Baldwin IV etc.

If you didnt like it before you wont like it now but for someone who enjoyed the first release it's a must. The way it should have been.

Oh and the music from the soundtrack sounds awesome in my SS campaign.

Please. Let's not start another Braveheart accuracy discussion. It's like kicking a disabled man.

Sorry I'm new to this forum and didn't realize its a dead horse (though not surprised). To be fair, I was only kicking the disabled man's offsprings.

I hated it... The beginning was interesting, but starting from the arrival in the Middle East it became stupid. Better than Alexander due to no faggots... I liked Troy more, at least because no one even thought about possible historical accuracy here (it's a screening of acient poem, for a long time even the city was thought of as fictional) and it was at least funny. Although the Kingdom is very political (read: Muslims should get at peace with Christians), it is much less political than 300 with its "Iran is bad" message. I won't even bother to watch 300 anyway.

P.S. They all suck compared to LotR, at least LotR goes very beautiful and along with the book... And Orlando Bloom is much more realistic as an Elf - I rolled on the floor, hearing that he will play in a movie with crusaders... Until the end I though he will play some kind of Saracen in the movie.

The siege battle scenes in "Kingdom.." were painfully short..

I like the older medieval films, like The Mongols (1961)

    Incredibly goofy but cool..

And no one commented on Joan of Arc by Luc Besson (France, NOT Hollywood) - at least her trial was as it is described in historical sources. But he made Brits too Barbaric...

In Joanne there was too much crying to my taste...

And for this Mongols movie, aren't they supposed to shut up when fighting? They keep yelling there, isn't that against mongol rules of fighting? :-/

I was not about Joanne as a flick overall, I don't liked it much, Jovovich is overreacting and after 5th Element and Leon (Professional in US), especially the uncut version of the latter, Besson can't make anything to stand up the same level...

I was about the historical acurracy and depiction of battles, IN COMPARISON with uppermentioned Hollywood movies... As I've seen Joanne of Arc only one time and don't remember a thing, except the trial.

There is also 2007 Russian movie Mongol, still haven't watched it yet.

Edit: Oh, and most enjoyable, yet mostly ahistorcal movie was the Scorpion King...
