    Icon12 Alexander- A Macedon Campaign

Ok, this is my first attempt at an AAR so please bear with me
(Slightly modded RTWv1.5: No Senate superfaction, all Romans are at war with each other; no rebels/pirates)

    LET THE GAMES BEGIN

As I was busy indulging in an orgy of games and fine snacks in the early hours of a cold winters morning a brightly coloured pamphlet caught my eye. I realised that it was the back page of the porn mag I was 'reading' earlier that day. The advertisement was for a "Quick Cash Tournament". Being a little short of pocket I decided to give it a go, it was the much loved and my personal favourite RTW.

I had never been to Vegas before, I was itching to have a dabble in the famous casinos where I was sure to lose my funds but I was already running late. I hurried along dreaming of the $5000 prize money and was suprised to find I had made my way there without getting lost. Before I knew it I was ushered into a seat at the back of a packed hall full of university students and ... Grown Men!! I was crapping myself. Unable to move. Rooted to my seat. I came around in time to hear the final words of the CA's speech.

'Each participant will be drawn into groups of 20, the winner will progress to Heat 2 and the winner of that to the Grand Final for a chance of the $5000 prize money'

    Total silence

    'The groups have been made'

Suddenly the walls came to life with hundreds of plasma screens bearing the heats groups. My legs were like lead, I could not move.

    'sir, are you alright?'

I managed to mumble a reply at the concerned staff member and she managed to obtain my username and directed me to my heat. I was sick with nerves and hardly noticed my "helper" had a fine booty, something I should have noticed!

Although none have been needed yet, how do I upload screenies? I have subscribed to photobucket.

I pressed printscreen onthe campaign map of my location so that should have saved to tgas file? I did not.

I have found them now. Although anti aliasing was on. that is now off. Do i have to save them in paint to change file name?
Do I have to exit RTW everytime I want to see my screen shots?

Ok, I have this. I posted the link . All I could see was a box with a cross in. I think I have done everything correct. Please inform me.
I will wait for someone to get in touch before I do anything else.

    Goldendunner -

I use 'fraps' as a perfect image capture software tool

Here's some tips for capturing those ever elusive great shots!

First, pause the game and then zoom around to find the shot you want.

Then, compose it. Click off adviser button, if showing. Hit 'return' key - this will deselect any highlighted units and remove green arrows. It also removes any of those annoying large arrows pointing to troop units offscreen.

Take the shot and make sure it is saved to a desktop folder say, 'fraps1'.

Have another folder set up on the desktop say, 'imageshackpics, or whatever.

Once out of the game, open up each individual screenshot and edit using 'paint' or 'photoshop'. This is where you remove the lower UI by cropping the screenshot. Rename and save in SECOND folder.

Once all the screenshots are edited and saved, upload entire second folder to somewhere like 'imageshack' using the 'bulk uploader' option, then sit back and watch it cook, as it were . . .

You can then use the img code line (left click copies it - paste where you want the pic to appear in your text) and viola pics!

That's the bones of the system I use but I am sure others here have better systems and will advise you as they see fit. Good luck and will look forward to you new pics soon!

I also use fraps, but I don't edit the pictures apart from a minor detail. I add the unit composition of enemy armies through paint, but I leave everything else in it. And I sent a pm regarding photobucket, hope it helps and good luck with your AAR!

We had a few hours to ourselves before the games began. I spent mine in a coffee bar around the corner. I would have died for a tea!

Soon enough it was time to go...

I took my seat, 1st of 20 and chose my faction. It had to be Macedon.
    Sniggers came from the places near me;

'Ha! he chose Macedon. Carthage all the way!'

Unfased, cool, collected I focused myself for the announcers final addressment:

'Heat 1, the first session will be 5 hours long. Let the game begin'

I was up first. The Greeks had to be watched, a job for my http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...dunner/spy.jpg

spy. I figured I had a few turns of peace, my neighbours will not be strong enough to make war. And the romans will be preoccupied with their civil war. I used my time wisely to prepare for an attack on Greece after securing valuable trade rights.

Hmm, might be better if you show the entire screenshot. Unless you have a purpose doing them this way.

    'Hey, Macedon dude!'

I glanced to my left. A spotty teen with scruffy black hair and jam jar glasses had my attention.

    'yeah?'

'fancy an alliance? Military access, trade, the full works?'

    'Hmm. Who are you?'

    'Alex456'

    'No, your faction!'

'Oh sorry Macedon dude, Thrace, we'll double team the Greeks'

'Go on then, and call me GD, much easier'

That was a weight off my shoulders, I was fearing an attack from Thrace. First of all I decided to help him with his war with Synthia and Dacia before we took out the Greeks. Man he was getting hammered. Two hours of frantic gaming and everthing Notrh of the Danube belonged to Thrace. A bright blue abyss in a desolate land. Now. The Greeks.

'Alex, join me. I am besieging Thermon'

    'Sure thing GD'

two turns later we were on the field. The canny geek was hiding behind my lines, I was going down fast.

'Hey! Do something! Look north of the Danube, its time you helped me'

'Agree to a gift of 25000 Denarii'

'No. I dont have that kind of money'

    'Very well, Goodbye loyal Ally'

He turned his troops and left the field and I was killed nearly to last man. I vowed for revenge but I was not in the position to take it.

Next turn he besieged Larissa and the plague hit my capital, killing two generals. Now I was on the back foot. Alex456 took Larissa Next turn and brought reinforcements from safe lands, his own!, taking Bylazora the turn after. Meanwhile the Greeks besieged Corinth and Greek_Greg allied with Alex, Thrace. Bad times. Very bad times.

Macedon was no more. A brave fight it was not, dealt a final blow by those closest to me, my old allies, Thrace. The people I had fought so hard alongside to repel barbarians. Beaten by half Greeks. Half the race of the mighty, full Hellanic Macedonians, Alexander's true heirs. The old tales of warring diadochi rather than a war against the empire's true enemies.

This was a rather disapointing finish to my campaign. I gave with screenies and hopefully I will Conquer tham in the near future

Hopefully if I get round to another AAR it will be longer and more successfull. Goodbye for now.

Lesson here, just as one of the maxims in the game says: A powerful ally is never to be trusted. Anyone know what good comes from an alliance?
