Default A lack of new Roman Kids on the Block

I have played around 10-20 turns, taken back the Italian peninsula and I am about to launch an attack on Sicily but I have had one General killed in action so I have one city without a Governer/ an army without a leader. My faction leader is over 60, my heir mid 50's and not a single young roman. Yes, thats right not even a roman who is under 16!!

I am thinking of putting my cities like tarentum, arretium, ariminium and croton on auto-manage {with me doing recruiting}, keeping a few governers in Rome and Capua and one leading the army. Plus I am recruiting another army to go North so I will have a governer leading that.

In vanilla rtw I would only expand when I am governing all settlements plus have an able commander. I get the feeling that in XGM I have to be quicker than this

What would you do in my situation? :hmmm:

your playstyle is different from mine. only rarely do i use generals as governors, as cities are fine without them, although there will always exist troublesome ones. early in the game, using the cavalry power of your generals in battle is crucial, in my experience. don't be afraid to turn some desk jockey into a bloodthirsty warrior.

as you gain more cities, more adoptions/man of the hour events should happen since the game takes a look at the amount of settlements and compares it to the amount of generals, this feature should quickly solve your age problem.

put a general(s) into a stack and finish taking sicily, then you could go for greece, but that is a little far away.

The game will give you more family members the more cities you have, to about 2 FM per 3 cities, so, if you have a general/governor in each city, you won't be getting many family members. It might be better to have governors in your larger, more important cities, and leave smaller ones just with a garrison.

Now I try to keep all family members out of Cities where possible and give them each a small force. Much better.

It's not just a matter of having them in or out of cities. Say you have 10 generals and 10 cities, you won't be getting many kids, marriages, or adoptions. Now, if you have 5 generals and 20 cities, you should be getting people left and right. So conquerring is the best way to get more family members.
