    Default Experience

Can someone please tell me what advantages units with high experience get. does experience just increase moral or does it actually make the units atk/def stats higher. in my campaign i love to try and keep advanced high experience armies in my arsenal, but i have never known what the actual advantage of it is.

    "just" increase of moral?!?!?!

your troops usually run when they are flanked, expierienced ones know(hope longer for) their general has a tactic that exposes them to flanking for a short time so that his super secret surprise charge saves the day, the battle, the war, the throne...

    "just" ... pfff!

For every new color of chevron (bronze, silver and gold) your troops get a bonus to their attack and defense skill (1 point per color).

How much experience does a unit usually lose when it's retrained? Probably very dependant on the number of fresh troops you're getting when you retrain a unit, but still. Is there a set formula or something similar for it?

I'm not sure. In Rome Total War a unit wouldn't lose experience when it was retrained, they may have changed it for Medieval 2. I don't really pay much attention to it, as experience isn't as powerfull as it was in Rome (+1 attack/defense skill per chevron).

Units don't lose experience when retrained. Also, missile troops and artillery become more accurate with every chevron I think.

I tried testing 3 gold chevron heavies (dismounted feudal knights) vs 1 gold chevron heavies (also dismounted feudals) and the 3 chevrons always seemed to come out on top. Maybe their attack speed increases too? I'm not sure.

I think 1 exp. point doesn't really help.

I've tested 2 of the same units.. 1 with 1 exp point and the other without.

Attack formation matters more. I've put them on the level playing field, but stretched out the non-experiences units more and they won.

Thanks for the help. I also know for sure that units don't lose experience when retrained, because i had a unit of feudal knights with only 2 knights remaining with a gold chevron of experience. When i retrained them to full strength they didn't lose any experience.

I'm not sure about that. I think the icon indication is busted.

I've had single digit units with experience points get retrained and the exp. points didn't change, but when less than half of the same units get killed, the exp points went away.

Experience is based (I think) on the average experience of all the troops in the unit. That means that if the guys up front (who do/did the majority of the fighting) die, the average experience lowers a lot. I've experienced this myself a lot while fighting on walls, where a few soldiers do most of the fighting. But when the battle is over, the amount of experience a unit has is maintained after retraining (found that out yesterday with a golden experienced Bombard unit).

Units with experience (bronze, silver, gold) only get an increase of 1 point to their attack point with every level. But defense points do not increase.

What? Yes they do... they get added to their defense skill, which unfortunately isn't counted when taking fire from missile units.
