what to do with invading mogols

well here i go, i am playing as the kiev russ in an early campaing. the time is right for the mongols to invade my terretorie so it seems. i don t realy have on armie to counter there 4 stack armies and my city s are only mand with 2 militia archers and 2 militia spearmen. so how do you keep them out of your citys any one got some good tips for me? thx

What provinces are yours? Anything east of Rostov (northeastern shore of Black Sea) should be left to the Mongols so you can make a decent stand at a castle. Don't try to defend everything or you'll be crushed. Pull all your troops from the west to the eastern border. I'd put together an army of spears and horsearchers and park them on a hill and see if they come to you.

Still, your best bet is a siege, I doubt you have the troop quality yet to face the Mongols on open ground

Maybe try bribing them. If that fails, assassinate their generals. If that fails, get everybody who can march and move somewhere where Mongols aren't a problem like Scandinavia or Italy...

By the way, in a couple of turns Teutonic Order will spawn and they go for Kiev 3 out of 4 my games. :-)

In your situation I would agree to vassalage.I know its hard to acept,but at least you'll have time to prepare your troops and crash them leter(will be historicly true as well Kiev did paid Mongols until they finaly defeated them on Kalka river).

Let me ask this question, has anybody ever had to square off against the Golden Horde playing a conservative game as the French or English? I can't imagine them being so aggressive they invade Western Europe?! I mean gee you would have to playing turn 47,000 to see this methinks.

Yes. Historically, if Ogadhi Khan hadn't drank himself to death, the Mongols would have gone as far west as Paris or even Spain.

I was playing England, and the Mongols were playing just beastly. They bumped out the Timurids almost as soon as they came in, and they literally conquered all of Eastern and Central Europe (along with Anatolia and the Middle East)

I was fighting Mongols in Northern France!!!

In the end though, my easy access to Nottingham uber-units helped give me a fighting chance. As well, their money flow to sustain such a vast empire was coming from freshly sacked territories, and now that I was finally holding them at bay, they were spending far more than they were making!!! The remnants of HRE, Hungary, Turks (surprisingly still alive!), France and Me then pushed them out of our part of the world. They dwindled for 10-20 more turns after the European/Asian Minor comeback, and then faded into obscurity...

euhm yeah oke if you want to see them when playing english ore french take a tour of one of ower traveling guids whe have wonderfull trips for you 1)go on a crusade and pillige jerusalem golden horde spectakel 2) see the steps of russia and meet the wonderfull barberians that will pillige and massacar your city' s and last but not leest 3) play as turks and see the golden horde brun down bagdat and this only for € 250

Mongols lose their momentum quite quickly in my games. Usually take Kiev, Antioch or Jerusalem, settle down and slowly take settlements around them. They never make it to christian states before very late in the game.

They don't rampage like they did in SS 4.0 when after 20 turns they usually had all the middle east and progressed on Balkans with huge fleets attacking ports all over the map...

This is another place when we sacrificed realism for having a playable game. And I think it was a good choice.

With new factions it will be even harder for Mongols and Timurids to get to Paris. They will probably end up in Baghdad most of the time...

Look I am not paying out on people here, it's just that after playing through a couple of long campaigns with West Euro factions, I haven't come close to locking horns with the Mong without taking a Crusade.

Well I am currently playing a VH/VH campaign as england and eagerly await them.

In my Moors campaign I left the Mongols to do their worst in the middle east. They wiped out Egypt (apart from an outpost on Crete) but then got totally trashed by the Timurids, and were finally left with only Baghdad.

Perhaps we need 2 Mongol hordes - one to move north of the Black Sea and one to attack the Middle east and Egypt?

Sometimes they appear in two places. North and south of the Caspian.

They quickly join their armies together though. The way a horde works since RTW:BI. So it won't make any good unless we use another faction slot for second horde.

Hi, 1st post, I really like to play as the Rus' and to avoid contact with the Mongols, I conquer Stockolm and Oslo, and from there I conquer Denmark till I get to Nurember, then go west and send 3 Really big armys to (east) wait for Mongols and Timurid.


I really like Medieval 2, ciao.
