    OK, you've installed RTR VII The Iberian Campaign what do you expect to see?

    On your desktop there will be a TIC shortcut (if you have requested it). It has been set up automatically with two switches;

    -show_err This switch will trap errors due to missing components and may return an error message
    -mod:TIC This switch points the game to the TIC folder

    Please don't remove either of these.

    The only other switch you can use is the no movie switch -nm. If you are experiencing problems playing movies and cannot resolve the problem (it's best to have the latest Windows Media Player installed) use this switch.

    The following is an example of what the shortcut properties look like;

    So, what should you expect to see when you've launched the game?

    The first thing you will see is the standard 'launch screen' (a red box will appear in the middle of your screen with 'Rome Total War Barbarian Invasion';

    The next screen that you will see is the RTR VII TIC Copyright screen;

    The next thing that happens is that a single movie will play (if you've not used the -nm switch). It's possible to by-pass the movie by pressing the escape key but please watch the movie at least once!

    Once the movie has completed you will be shown the 'load screen';

    Once the game has been loaded the 'main menu' will be shown;

    After this point the menu structure is standard RTW. You may want to go into the Options menu to change the Video, Audio, Control and Camera Settings to suite your preferences.

    As you may be aware these preferences are held in a text file called 'preferences.txt' which for this mod is held in the 'TIC\preferences\' folder. This file will not be present until you launch either the main campaign or a custom battle (it's easiest to launch a custom battle). If you have installed RTR VII TIC in an existing game folder the preferences.txt file from the preferences folder (in the main game folder) will be used as a base for the one used in TIC.

    It will have banners turned off and the arrow markers similarly turned off. The minimal user interface for the battle will not be set.

    SHOW_BANNERS:FALSE
    DISABLE_ARROW_MARKERS:TRUE
    MINIMAL_UI:FALSE

    If you do not like these preferences you will need to edit the file (notepad can be used) and they can be modified (just change TRUE to FALSE or FALSE to TRUE). All other edits to this file should be done through the game menus.

    If you use the minimal UI interface (for battles) it's suggested that you set up some keys for changing the speed of the game. This is done through the options menu - just select control settings.

    You will see a screen like the one below. To change a setting double click on the control and then use the keys that you want to use (I have 'shift+P' for pause, 'shift+N' for normal speed, 'shift+D' for double speed and 'shift+T' for triple speed). You can also see that it's possible to toggle the radar map (FP5), toggle the unit buttons (FP6) and toggle the unit cards (FP7).

    If you are having a problem with the game it will help if you can supply a screen shot with your problem report. A picture really does count as a thousand words.

    The recommended approach is to use a web site to host your screenshots. The popular ones are photobucket ( www.photobucket.com ) and imageshack ( www.imageshack.com ). These are free. Photobucket requires an valid email address, I believe it's possible to get imageshack to host images without the supply of an email address.

    If you want to know how to take a screen shot the following is extracted from this post http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=90516

    14) "How do I take a screenshot and post it on the forum?"
    To take a screenshot follow this simple guide;

    1. Hit Print Screen key on your keyboard to capture the image into memory.
    2. Open any graphics program such as MSPaint, Infranview, ACDSEE, or Photoshop, etc.
    3. Hit Ctrl-V
    4. Save the image as .jpg
    5. While making a new post
    6. Hit "Browse" button next to "File Attachments"
    7. Select the .jpg file you just saved, hit OK, and then hit "Add This Attachment"
    8. Complete the post by hitting "Add Reply"

    It is possible to attach images direct to the post without using a host but there is a finite limit to the attachments. Using a host means that your quota is not affected by your post.

    Help us to help you!

    You can also use the -ne switch on the shortcut Target line for (much) faster Ctrl/Alt-tab switching, though I would only recommend using it if you run the game at the same resolution as your desktop.

    Please supply screen shots (the message 'please select item from list' and then 'need date to start') so we can see where this has happened.

    I downloaded TIC this afternoon and after a clean install of RTW BI 1.6 and then TIC I have no problems starting a campaign.

    Thanks

    No problems. Can you let me know what happened? This is in case someone else has the same problem we can then let them know how to resolve it.

    If it's embarrassing you can always PM me!

    Thanks.

    Probably had BI 1.4 and not patched to 1.6. That is most often the reason for that error message.

    Edited (Brusilov): Thanks for that.

    Can you explain exactly what is happening - if possible provide screen shots to help the explanation. What you have posted is very hard to follow.

    Is the CTD happening on the strategy map or is it when the battlemap is trying to load?

    Please also post details of your PC specs and the graphics options you have selected.

    Thanks.

    When the installer is run a small grey box appears and does the following two steps;

    1) verifies install
    2) unpacks data

    It will then prompt you for a language.

    Is it failing at this stage? If it is how much disk space do you have free?

    When you run the installer you need to point it to the folder in which the RTW BI game is held. For instance 'activision\rometotalwar\' where inside this folder is the Rome TW-BI.exe file.

    The installer will create a TIC sub-folder.

    Does this happens to you from the first battle/every battle or after two or three battles?

    Usually with this microsoft message there is a way to try and find the details of what the error actually is. I think it's the 'clique aqui' button - there may be further buttons to press after that. I think at the end of it it just points to a driver file that is causing the problem.

    What spec is your PC and what graphics settings are you using?

    Please make sure that your graphics card has the latest drivers.

    I believe the graphics in TIC are higher quality than RTW BI so this may be causing a problem.

    Once you have ensured that the graphics card has up-to-date drivers can you use lower resolution and graphics detail - this may help to isolate the problem and get you playing TIC sooner.

    Sorry to hear that you had to reduce the graphics but good to hear that you can run the game at least.

    Maybe we need some sort of guide on how to run the game with an older graphics card (I know grass is a killer).
