Default Online Campaign - Stainless Steel (12-24-07)

    Happy Holidays everyone!

I'm starting this thread for those who would like to play a Stainless Steel 5.1 online Campaign game. You may sign up here by naming the faction you'd like to play (first come first serve!) I would like to get at least 4 or 5 players to start. So far we have the following players:

    Venice Poqzt
    Byzantium Armatus
    Hungary Kurfürst
    Denmark Sir Raven
    Sicily NorwegianBlue
    France TriforceV
    Leon Castile Gavmundo

The links to the files you need:

    Stainless Steal 5.0 & 5.1 patch
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=126810

    Echad's Hotfixes
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=134046

After installing the Hotfix now you must install the mini mods we will be playing with. Go to your Optional folder located in your root Medieval directory and extract the following files:

    Greek Flamethrower Fix

    KoJ Family Tree + No-Borders

    Smoke Fix Test 1.2

    Lusted's Latest Capaign AI

Extract them into the root Medieval directory and when you are asked to overwrite select Yes to All

    Things to note:

    1. We will be using this thread to pass our turns via the upload tool and communicate so if you join be sure to enable email notification upon reply.

    2. Each player has 24 hrs to complete their turn (if you can't complete it in 24 hrs please let us know here in the thread. If you will be gone for longer than 48 hrs you should find a substitute.

    3. We will be using passwords so when you create yours make sure you write it down. Trust me I've forgotten my before and it's no fun starting the game over

    4. The dev console will be disabled at the start of the campaign and will be monitored throughout the game; so do not enable it or we will be forced to start over and if it is learned you have cheated through the console then you will be disqualified from further campaigns (at least any that I start.)

    5. If you want to play but not sure how to see the link in my signature or click here: Kingdoms Multiplayer Campaign for instructions.

Lastly this is about fun, but we would like only serious players who will follow the rules and play it out to the end. You can forfeit if things don't go your way but in the even that you would choose to do so please find an alternative alternative player so that the game is not held up.

That's about it! So go ahead and sign up now and state your choice of factions!

    Thanks & Good luck!

    I'm interested.

I would suggest playing with SS 5.1 with hotfix 1, and perhaps Lusteds experimental ai? It's the best ai I've tested.
    Link: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=135208

Also, do you think this mod (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/downl...o=file&id=1758) and some added loading screens will interupt a hotseat game?

If it's too much trouble, perhaps we should play with with vanilla SS 5.1 and hotfix 1.

Anyway, I'd like to play as Venice.

I guess it depends on what everyone agrees to. Personally I'm just running SS 5.1 with no mini mods or fixes. I say for starters lets keep it simply and maybe just go with the fix, but let's gather a few more people and then discuss it further.

I would happily join and play as the Kingdom of Hungary.

PS : Someone playing Sicily, some of the Rus states or Milan would be wonderful.. or the Turks! It seems most players so far would choose something around of the Balkans.

I have a feeling that thread is going out of hand... We need someone who is experienced with hotseat games to be the admin and lead the game. I would suggest Armatus if he'd be willing to lead the game, becuse we need structure.

No offense to you Sword of God, but that's my opinion.

It would be best if the leader stated a new thread in in the SS sub forum, with all information needed to run the hotseat. I think we should stick with vanilla SS.5.1 and hotfix 1 and not ad any unnecessary small mods etc. But if we really have to add some other things (like changes in the descr_strat of something), the leader will have to upload, and post them in the firt post so everyone can download it.

We'll need to structure the turns according to the players GMT. (which could be added later in the first post).
We need to settle a way to save our games. I would suggest SS (stainless steel)_T? (turn number)_England (faction). So, if I am France and just completed turn 1 and England is after me, I should name the save SS_T1_ England.
Should we play with autoresolve or should we be able to control our forces when we attack (which should show the power and advantage of being the attacker)?
We'll need passwords. Perhaps we should ask a person to be a "safeholder" who keep our passwords just in case if someone forgets his.

I may come up some more things later...:hmmm:

Thank you for the offer, I`ll, given the rate of these things (perhaps it`s my turn only 2-3 times a week), I guess it`s no problem to participate in both your campaign and that of Armatus.

I welcome all of your thoughts on this, I've started this thread and I'm going to stick with it as I not only want to attract those in Stainless Steel forum, but visitors to the Multiplayer forum. Additionally the more threads you have the more disorientation and confusion and it is important to get these games off the ground so people don't loose interest and others are inspired to try it out for themselves when they see people like us having fun.

So let's go with 55.1 & hotfix. Considering my style of play which is harder as I prefer to fight the battles out as auto resolving would totally defeat the purpose of playing a mod like Stainless Steal with better AI and beautiful units. So I am willing to try Lusted's experimental AI.

I'll pm everyone this morning so we can get started.

Normally in our other online games we just name the file "whatever_date_(#)"

So if you haven't already done so please install Stainless Steal to your main M2 directory, followed by the SS 5.1 patch, followed by the Hotfix and finally Lusted's AI.

For everyone else pick your factions and let's get this ball rolling today or tomorrow!

    Thanks all

Should we use this FIX (recommended by King Kong) in below URL

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=134046

    or King Kong`s Hot Fix?

ok I think you might be right that other hotfix includes lusted's and king kong's hotfix, I've alread installed both so I'll try just installing the one by Echad over top of them and see if there's any change, otherwise you all go ahead and install just Ecad's and we should be good to go.

One possible important note to those of you from Sword of God's campaign thread. I believe the MP instructions to edit your preferences config file include some incorrect info for playing hotseat with Kingdoms.

You should NOT need the following line:

    [multiplayer]
    playable = true

That works in M2, but I sustained CTDs with that code for Kingdoms hotseat, please reference the link for Kingdoms Campaign in my signature or at the top of this thread for the settings to verify in your preferences config file.

    Thanks

Yea definately stick with this thread rather than the Sword of God link. Again no disrespect to SoG but some of us have played in an Armatus game before (without problems) and we know they work and too many cooks spoil the broth as they say. I think the final decision on fixes should be left to Armatus we don't want to be adding too many fixes that aren't related to Stainless Steel and as the battles are auto resolved there's no need to fix any single player battle problems so I think probably less is more. The less chance of CTD's the better.

Have any positions been decided for sure yet? Maybe a list of who we have so far and what position there playing maybe helpful? As usual I don't really mind who I play but there are so many countries available in this game there will be plenty of choice. We need to fill as many positions as possible as well to stop any player having an unfair advantage. If we have a bunch of players bordering each other and then one on the otherside of the map with loads of AI countries around him it's not going to be very fair.

Thanks Gav for the kind vote of support and no disrespect to anyone else either. There's definitely room for more than one campaign at a time so join whatever you like or both for that matter doesn't bother me as long as everyone sticks with the game and plays their turns in decent time.

Well I've already made it, just Echad's hotfixes no additional mods. But one thing I was hoping for was to be able to play out battles at least against the AI, personally I don't care if someone attacks my AI I will just retaliate. I like my game tough. No offense to anyone that likes an easier game, but if you really want balance why not just go play on gamespy?

Ok we need to have an agreement on the battles, I would say play them out if you want otherwise auto resolve between humans. I'll leave it up to you guys, but it's all on the honor system anyway...

Take a look at top post. I've been updating it as I gather more info.

I would be happier if we could play out every single battle (AI or human armies), but I will go with the decision and likings of the majority here.

I am all set BTW, so as far as I go, we can start.

MTW2 was installed, Kingdoms was installed, SS50 was installed, SS51 installed over it, Echad's hotfixes was installed and finally, Lusted`s AI was also installed.

You do remember our first mp campaign (we never finished) was in M2 between you and I, did you think the AI was going to be dormant?

Basically if you are attacking or being attacked within your turn you get to choose to auto resolve or fight it out.

Hadn't noticed the playerlist at the top of the page. Well we're quite aways off getting a full compliment lol.

Actually I'm starting with whatever number we got by tomorrow evening. Like you said too many cooks spoil the pot. But remember this isn't vanilla either the AI is a lot better and I'm interested to see just how good Lusted's experimental AI will be as well.

Actually Lusted's AI should have been in Echad's fix, but if you installed it over top it probably didn't change anything so you should be good to go.

Um Armatus that first game lasted like one turn before we quit so no one fought anyone whether it be a live player or AI so as I said I've never played a game where I've had to fight the AI in a hotseat game

I'm not too keen on the idea of human players being able to fight other human players on the battle map. I mean each human player is sure to win any such battle so would probably prefer to know the that if attacked by another human player that it would be autoresolved. I don't like the idea of the ai commanding my armies and losing just about ever man I have whereas the other human player loses like three men
