Eventually you will get an event pop up that says something along the lines of "The world is round!" and the way will be open for you to go to the Americas.

    Does NOT require Kingdoms.

Yes. After the world is round pop up you can build ships that can cross the ocean. Head west with a fleet and several stacks and find the gold and some feathered guys on funny clothes. Don't worry they are completely harmless

I believe that is 320-328 years. So, since the standard is 2 years/turn, it means 160-162 turns.

That is why the RTW 0.5 Years/turn is so slow in M2TW.

No the files are misleading in how they work. its certainly not 320-328.
I Beleive its around the year 1400. If i remember correctly around turn 140 or so .

If your playing 0.5 years per turn and the world is round event is kept on the same date then you'll be waiting until about 640 turns. I hope that's not the case. If it's vanilla style then what foolfromhell said is right. It will be between turn 160 and 164

Go to C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign and edit the file descr_strat. Set the timescale to 0.5 in stead of 2.0.

If you can't change the file you have to remove the read only attribute (right click)

I think you need the highest level of port to build the correct ships. And don't skimp on the number of ships, because there'll be a few storms along the way.

The 'world is round usually pops up around 1400. I don't understand why they put the discovery of the new world in 'Medieval' total war I didn't see any point.

It is difficult to decide when the Middle Ages ended; in fact, scholars assign different dates in different parts of Europe. Most scholars who work in 15th century Italian history, for instance, consider themselves Renaissance, while anyone working elsewhere in Europe during the early 15th century is considered a mediaevalist. Others choose specific events, such as the Turkish capture of Constantinople or the end of the Anglo-French Hundred Years' War (both 1453), the invention of printing by Johann Gutenberg (around 1455), the fall of Muslim Spain or Christopher Columbus's voyage to America (both 1492), the Protestant Reformation starting 1517, or the Battle of Lepanto (1571) to mark the period's end. In England the change of monarchs which occurred on 22 August 1485 at the Battle of Bosworth is often considered to mark the end of the period, Richard III representing the old mediaeval world and the Tudors, a new royal house and a new historical period.
From wikipedia. Christopher Columbus' trip to the americas is one of the ending parts of medieval. In MTW2 there is no columbus, but a discovery of the roundness of earth - so the player could be the person that discovered Americas. So 'world is round' happened before the end of the middle ages.

Anyway, you need the highest level docks, to build either a Carrack, Grande Carrack, Caravel or Baghlagh to sail to americas. The type of the ship depends on your faction youre playing.

Eventually they should do a Total War that spans all of History. It could get confusing though. They would clearly have to create ridiculous armies such as romans greeks and egyptians so that they can become massive empires like they should have done before collapsing. There would have to be a lot of triggered events that can't be prevented to make history run as smoothly as possible. Still it would be fun to try and prevent certain empires from ever happening.

Well, i wouldnt bother playing it for years to get on medieval ages - though if they make shortcut campaigns maybe then. But you would be upgrading your troops all the time, and how about declaring independancy? What if the faction didnt actually control the area that declared it. Most of factions would be changing their names all the times, you know 'Egypt' has been many different caliphates etc etc.

I'd prefer just games of different eras. No need to get too complicated :p

Hence the installation of unavoidable triggers and such. Perhaps the difficulty would auto increase incase you are doing too good. the AI would have strict scripts to prevent them getting too powerful.
