How to trample an army easy!

Send your Heavy infantry to the front of your army and line them up. Behind them send supporting lighter infantry. Behind them archers. To the Far back, left, and right you cavalry evenly divided between light and heavy. Let the enemy come to you. Let your archers do their work until they have crossed about 2/3 of the space between your army and theirs. Tell the archers to stop fighting and charge with your heavy infantry. About 2-5 seconds after immideatley send in all the light infatry to support you. The enemy will be distracted completley. Take first light cavalry and go around the fighting. Send you heavy infantry to the rear. From the back left and right charge with your light cavalry. To the back with your heavy cavalry. The enemy will be completely horrified and run for their lives. After they all flee contin ue the battle and defeat all the soldiers. The fleeing will be completley entrapted and you will win with not a single survivng enemy as long as your timing is exact or very close to exact.

For you best bets use heavy pikeman first then a militia or swordsmen. Good archers too!

but of course Emperor Tom (obviously new to total war) starts to pick up the nescessary things in this game (comparing his questions since he registered). He seems to start to understand the basic ideas of medieval tactics (at least the way that it was implemented in Total War series...) and I think we should encourage him to go on and ask/state his insights. Sure some things seem obvious, especially for those who play Total War since Shogun, but you luckily cant expect that from everyone.

So Emperor Tom, go on ask and state your findings. You will get responses and sometimes someone will give you a hint on how to make it even better.

something like, keep your light cavalry ready to chase the routing enemy, they are your fastest unit and not even heavy cavalry that is routing gets away from a bunch of scouts

I would first try to kill their generals if i have enough shock cavalry, and i would also try to advance in one of the 4 directions at the same time and defeat one of the 4 army`s so i can form a long line and not worry about getting flanked, the rest is in the hands of god...lol.

I use this tactic too (even though I do not win all my battles since I'm still a noob ).
But it's quite hard to use that against Lusted's AI. The enemy stop my cavalry with theirs (and always kill my cavalry, I dunno how, but they do it).
So I send my infantry (which is decimated by their bloody archers ) and lose the battle. Oh, better now, how can I win against 7000 men, who are coming from every direction possible (there are like 6 or 7 reinforcements), and I have only 4500 men? (I have russian spear militia against huscarls, viking raiders, norse swordsmen and 2 times more cavalry)

Well look, I beat 3 armies against my own in RTW as they came from three directions and still beat them with ease. Now either their very bad or I'm pretty damned good.

I dunno why but when it's got you surrounded, the AI attacks in stages. It's like those old kung foo movies where the hero is surrounded and they send one guy at a time to take him on. OF COURSE HE CAN TAKE THEM ONE AT A TIME, HE'S A FREAKING KUNG FOO MASTER (like tom). Now if they all rushed him, like good little kung-foo-movie-goons should do, they could at the very least create a giant bear-hug-fest and squeeze the life out of him with sheer numbers.

I get the feeling the AI in MTW:II might be set up to where if they totally dominate you in numbers, it might give you a bit of a break and utilize retardo tactics (like in Kung Foo movies) so you have a chance of winning.

I Might be wrong on that one, though. Maybe I'm just a kung foo master. (again, like tom)

About the attacking in stages thing, i always assumed that they did that because the other armies are reinforcements. Like when you attack with more that one full stack you can't use them all at the start, you have to wait till there is space in your army.

I think this is right but i haven't played a battle on med2 for a while because i've messed up my games files so much that i can't play any battles , but i can't be bothered to reinstall it .
