Money
Today I went in to debt, for the first time EVER in M2TW! I dont know why either, none of my cities are in the red and my armies are rather small compared to the ones I had in vanilla. So why the hell am I losing money, is it me or is it easier to gain money in vanilla then in this. At the minute im weighing up my options; Vanilla-I get money, SS-cool new units and skins (And more cities). These sure are cool but pointless if you lose the campaign due to no money!

Re: Money
I always find that I am too rich! And all my familiy members always get bad traits, anyway to stop them from stealing money from my empire. Its when you have around 50,000 that you begain to start to get those bad traits.

Re: Money
make sure you have trade rights with everyone, garrison free men, not ones that cost you and look at upkeep costs. a lot of times you can get better armies for cheaper. build ports, farms, use mercants(sp?) have cities, castles dont make you much.

Re: Money
I'm guessing you have more castles than cities. Also, some areas of the map just aren't that profitable, so it depends on your faction.

Re: Money
Check your financial summary.
Those cool new units often have pretty hefty upkeeps. So you might have 2/3 the men with twice the upkeep to pay. This can really hit you hard in late era campaigns when it's easy to raise expensive troops without the infrastructure to support them.
Things to note:
1 - Smaller castles have a hard time providing enough upkeep for their garrisons. Convert them to cities as soon as they are no longer on your border.
2 - Merchants can raise a lot more money in SS if you get them onto profitable resources. One merchant trading gold in Timbuktu will raise more money for your empire than two towns.

Thats a hell of a lot of gold, i always find the resources pretty crap until you can get your merchant skills to level 6 or 7, but until then, and depending on what faction you are, it's actually hard to gain much money from the resources.
I always edit the files to suit me, i've never had issues with money, my only issue are the annoying traits, for an enemy ai which mass produces units, and causes lots of spider web effects, thanks to nickmans ai thing, its a damn pain only ever being allowed out of cities for like 4/6 turns without forcing yourself into battles xD
the real easy way to get gold, is to force the enemy ai to give you gold for an alliance, or for map information, it doesnt work with difficult ai settings though, like nickmans ai, or probably lusted's, but with the basic ss 5.1 its real easy to get gold xD

Re: Money
right I would do this but the problem is im already in the red!
I was allied with Scotland but i needed money so much I declared war on them to get some money-You can get alot of money from Capitals right?
PS. abit off topic, but this is really starting to ennoy me but on the campaign it takes a long time to join armies together, garison armies, talk with diplomats/princesses etc why is this and how do I stop it. (Will I have to reinstall SS?)
Edit: Oh yeah and im England, have I said this before? And I have England, Wales, dublin region and the holy lands.

Re: Money
Press the 'space' bar to toggle between fast and slow actions. That should make the character animations on the world map as fast as they get.
One of your big cash problems is that you have England, Wales, Dublin, and the holy lands.
Where is your capital city? The further your capital city is from a province, the more corruption you have there and the less net income you get from it. Your holy lands could be costing you a LOT of money in corruption. Plus you probably have a lot of unhappy people there due to the religious differences. Which means you get less money in taxes.
For an immediate boost to your cash, consider moving your capital city closer to the majority of your provinces or sell/trade your holy land provinces to an ally.

Re: Money
My capital is London. But most fo the people in the Holy Lands are Catholic now as I have had them for a couple of years, like 70% upwards.
And im not talking about speed in that terms, I mean when the character reaches their target it takes a while, ie longer than vanilla, to do their action.

Re: Money
What do you have in the Holy Lands? Just Jerusalem and Acre? Or more?
Seriously, they're a huge drain on your economy if they're that far from your capital. Check out your financial summary.

Re: Money
YES! I HAVE MONEY! AND LOTS OF IT!!!!!!
I took Edinburgh, and got like 5,000 (yeah out of debt), then I marched on and went into a battle with the Scot king and prince, I killed the king and ransomed the prince (they gave me like 15,000 for him). Then they where destroyed for some reason. So I am now beseiging Inverness.
PS Im gonna change the cstles in Wales into Cites, well atleast one of them.

Re: Money
If you have provinces in the holy land I would suggest to train merchants there and send them close to Alexandria, there are some good resources there that can give quite some cash. Some Ivory further down there as well I think and that really is worth a lot.

Re: Money
There are some good resources to the north of Jerusalem and south of Alexandria next to the Egyptian castles on the edge of the map.
