    Default Arrows and Dust

    Greetings,

    My apologies if this is floating around out there, but I could not find anything whilst searching through the threads. Can anyone please aid me in disabling the dust and permanent arrows from SS 5.1? I would surely appreciate it.

    Thank you for your help. I still do not know how to do it, though. I suppose I will keep searching around or uninstall. Thank you again.

    it implies that real arrow mod and the dust mod are already in 5.1, i looked through the link and thats what it basically said, but..even i never noticed it lol

    maybe it is though, will check later.

    Permanent arrows can be removed by uncommenting the ";play_time 5" below the "effect_set arrow_impact_ground_set" in descr_effect_impacts.txt. The number 5 is time in seconds the arrows stay in the ground before vanishing.

    I believe dust can be removed by removing descr_particles.txt, but I haven't done this myself, only modded it to make the dust effect smaller.

    Can you post your modded descr_particles.txt please? Or just post, what to change to reduce the dust?

    @Eriol

    Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly does uncommenting mean? I went to my file and this is what it looked like:

    effect_set arrow_impact_ground_set
    {
    play_time 5
    lod 1000
    {
    arrow_ground_impact
    bullet_impact_ground_small

    }
    }

    Should it look like this now?

    effect_set arrow_impact_ground_set
    {
    ;play_time 5
    lod 1000
    {
    arrow_ground_impact
    bullet_impact_ground_small

    }
    }

    Thanks for the help everyone.

    UNcommenting means you remove the ";" comment mark before the code. If you did not have ";" before play_time, your arrows should vanish in the time given. If not, check for other commented ";play_time" in the text file referring to arrows. I removed a bunch of comments myself, like flaming arrows, large arrows etc.

    This is what I have in descr_particles.txt
    The dust is still quite visible, but more subtle. I haven't had much of slowdown because of dust, more so because of arrows, so I'm not sure how much this will benefit those who get severe lag from dust.

    type dust
    action advance
    action age_to_limit 3 ;used to be 5 (seconds dust lasts)
    action accel_simple
    action colour_shift, 202,187,154,110, 111,100,75,110, 0.23 ;0.045 ;184,156,93
    action expand, 1.0 ;used to be 1.4 (dust expansion in meters/second)
    action max_particles, 5000 ;used to be 15000
    renderer quad_fade, 0.1, 0.6, 1
    renderer_class normal
    anim 1, 0, do_not_loop
    texture data/battlefield/cloud_sprite.tga
    texture_frame 0,1, 1,1, 1,0, 0,0
