Wait there...? Didn't Senator Drusus win the election for Praetor yesterday?

For the cut, even delivered with force, frequently does not kill, when the vital parts are protected by equipment and bone. On the contrary, a point brought to bear is fatal at two inches; for it is necessary that whatever vital parts it penetrates, it is immersed. Next, when a cut is delivered, the right arm and flank are exposed. However, the point is delivered with the cover of the body and wounds the enemy before he sees it."

I should have kept my silence (joke).

But Senator Lepidus might have been aware of that extra vote. Did Senator Drusus give up from the election, in the last minute?

(Still seated in the consul chair, head in one hand looking to the floor of the senate hall, senators mumbling to themselves waiting for the proceedings to begin… Senior Consul Sabinus begins his speech with three words, opening as a murmur rising in stature till the senate hall is his…)

    Expansion expansion expansion

(Standing with his toga neatly tucked under his right arm…)

Senators, the time is now. Italia must be unified under one banner. To long have the Grecians invaded our shores; to long have the Italian states rebelled against our supremacy. Let our name live eternally. Let us fashion a new destiny. Are you content with our standing among nations? Are you satisfied, with your family name, your villa and estate in Capua? Is this all that you need senators? Are you not hungry for more, do you not want your name uttered among the gods, do you not want glory and honour? For me what we have now, it is not enough, for Roma it is not enough. She wants more, she desires to expand and are you going to be the one to say no to her? I do not believe esteemed colleagues that you will stand in her way. She is but a child needing to be cared for and I am willing to stand here and say I will care for her. Will you stand with me senators...?

I foresee a future where Roma stretches from the Rhine to the Pyrenees’, from the Atlantic to Aegean Sea. It might not be in my life time or that of our sons but it will happen that Roma will have her due. She cannot be pushed back. She cannot wither and she will never fade away. So senators of the Res Publica of Roma, let this year take course. Let us get down to the business at hand…

*Senator Cato stops sipping his wine and looks tword the Consvl*

And how do u supose we do that Consvl?
We have Phyruss at the south along with considerably strong southern Cities..
We have independant gallic tribes to our north if we turn our attention to the south they will surly stab us in the back.

I am in favor for giving Roma her growth Speer, so to speak, But we need to consider all the enemies around us first Consvl.

Senator Sabinus, your points are admirable, but remember that our armies will only fight as long as they're fed and paid. Our pace is dictated by our purses, and although I do support this expansionist police, overtly jingoist pursuits should be not considered for the well being of the Republic. Our policy should be of gradual expansion so as to avoid exhausting our reserves in essential moments.

Gaius Claudius Constantinus enters the senate with slow pace, yet confident look;He stops close to the curile chair and with confident looks starts his speech..

<<Esteemed Senators; Many a time have our glorious nation faced threats and overcame them; Many a time a foreign enemy choose battle instead of Reason! We are yet again faced by a such situation - we face war noble Senators against the Greek slaves of a tyrant. Tarentum groans beneath the tyrant's heel! That tyrant threatens Rome!Shall we abandon Southern Italy?Leave good lands and our Italian allies in the hands of the Greeks?Or shall we act as Romans? With courage and dignity?

Senators, this is the time for blood; Ask your selves if you wonder, what would our ancestors would have done?Would they bent their knees to a tyrant?Leave the Republic to die? No,friends! They would have chased him out as a mad dog!To WAR!>>

Senator Optimus - that is why I have you appointed as quaestor. You will ensure the legions are fed and clothed. Surely from your speech I need not worry about the finances.
Censor Claudius, I applaud your speech. Short and to the point.

OOC: Crap sorry yes senator Drusus is the real praetor. Changed the election results. Thanks to those that noticed my mistake.

Lepidus rises from his Curile chair and addresses the senate.

" I hear danger in my co Consul's words. Surely, the Epriotes should be dealt with, but what cause have we to invade the realms of other sovereign states? What Casus Belli? I will not stand for untamed aggression against our Italian neighbors. I say to you that I will use my Consular veto on any declaration of war with an Italian power that is not properly passed through the senate."

"The dreams of my young colleague are grand and admirable, but foolhardy. We need economic expansion, to strive toward equality in our society. Only then shall we truly be the greatest people in the civilized world."

    The Consul sits.

Senator Claudius Constantinus rises and says to the other senators:

<<Senators, let us be swift in the decision! What is to be done?Shall we march against Pyrrhus? As said by my friend Decimus, the offices of Censor and Quaestor are working as we speak to provide the Consul with the best directions on the economic functions of the Republic, having as goal the transformation of our economy from peace time to war time.Soon,we will be ready not only to wage war but to profit the most from it...>>

(ooc) Not yet, gracchus, but you guys may drive me to it...

    Lepidus speaks

"To wage a war for profit, and not for the defense of one's people or a common ideal, is surely the lowest of all wars to be waged. We will fight Pyrrhus not because it will benefit us, but because it will allow for our survival."

    ooc.OK then I guess I am praetor.

Let us proceed in all things with care. Before we decide the fate of the men of Roma let us know what the situation is. It is understood that
Pyrrhus is in the south but with how many men, what quality and who supports him.

Co-consul - I think you have been struck hard with the Roman sun. Maybe you should have had that vacation on the coast where its a little cooler. And every move I make will be on the act of the senate.

ooc: the election results still show Drusus as Senior Consul???
