    Default Modding Knights Templar

I was just wondering how to modify the Knights starting position and where/what I need to change is. I was wanting to give them a bit more cash and maybe some different troops to begin with.

I mean I like the challenge of the faction, but with their starting troops and cash, I find it really hard to get a viable state up and running.

If you have money problems start a little Diplo-Tour from the start. Offer with your Diplomate Alliance, Trade Rights and Mapinformation to every faction on your way. In return you want money.
In the first turns you can only ask for 2000 - 4000. After some time it can be up to 6000 - 8000. If a faction is in war with one of your Allies, and you are able to ask this faction for an Alliance, you can ask them for ca. 10000.
Only the pope doesn't like, if you ask for too much. He mostly give you only 1000 - 1500.

This will give you enough money for the start without modding !

I played Templars on H/H and it is a great challenge.
First I got Fatimid Caliphate on my neck , than Mongols and Timurids ... I survived defending Jerusalem time after time.
In my opinion You don't need to mod that faction , just use Lusteds new AI and you will see the difference ... good luck

In the \mods\Stainless_Steel\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign folder is a file called descr_stat. It contains a list of all the settlements and who they belong to. So make sure where you want is in the Templars section and that they have some troops there.

You can alos increase the kings purse slightly as this is how much you get / turn.

To err is human, but to really foul things up you need a computer.

    I modded my desc_strat file.

I've been playing for 70 turns now, and loving it.

Now that I've been at it I am wishing that I would have modded it some more.

I gave my templars a fleet, an extra diplomat, and a better faction leader at game start, plus 5000perturn kings purse and completely abandoned tortouga, took rhodes, ikarion, smyrna, corinth, and athens instead! Plan on returning to the holy lands soon though...

    Thanks for the help

I decided on upping the Kings Purse to 4k and replacing the Pilgrims with Sergeant Spearmen to help make taking Antioch a little easier.

My first run with SS 5.1 is with the Knights Templar on vh/vh. What an incredibly challenging faction/mod. Currently at 1410 (221 turns). Have 51 Regions and have fought 261 battles. Lost 27 of them. 100 turns remaining and the Americas just opened up.

My main concern is with the Generals Bodyguard unit. The Templars first fight the Seljuk Sultanate (Turkish) and the Fatimid Caliphate (Egyptians). Both of those factions seem to have Kwarizmian-like Bodyguard units. The Templar Generals simply cannot stand toe to toe with those Generals. In the early going I had to commit a significant portion of my army just to kill off their general units.

You might want to consider giving the Templars the Island with Nicosia on it. That City is my current capital city. Historically the Knights Templar had connections to that Island. And staying on the Levant continent was very difficult considering they were attacked from the north and south simultaneously. That island is a useful refuge.

Another point is the Templar Confrere Knights. They are only developed in a Citadel in a Kings Stable. They really could have been useful much earlier. I still do not have them. Working on getting them soon.
